ScreenExtract performs optical character recognition locally inside Google Chrome. It does not require an account and does not operate a backend service.
DATA HANDLED
When a user starts a capture, ScreenExtract temporarily processes pixels from the visible browser tab and the text recognized from the selected region. Captured screenshots are used in memory for OCR and are not uploaded or retained as image files.
ScreenExtract can keep up to 20 recognized text results in Chrome’s local extension storage. Users can delete individual results or clear all history from the extension panel. Live Capture saves only its final recognized result when stopped.
DATA SHARING AND COLLECTION
ScreenExtract does not transmit screenshots, recognized text, browsing history, personal information, analytics, or usage telemetry to the developer or any third party. The packaged OCR engine and English language model run locally and require no runtime network service.
The use of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
PERMISSIONS
activeTab provides temporary access to the tab only after the user invokes ScreenExtract.
scripting inserts the selection and result interface into the active page.
offscreen runs the packaged OCR worker outside the page.
storage keeps recent recognized text locally for capture history.
ScreenExtract does not request broad host permissions.
USER CONTROL
Users can clear local history at any time from the extension panel. Removing the extension also removes its Chrome-managed local storage.
