A series of tutorial created by Mr Hyde @NLCS Dubai on how to build a Maze Game in Scratch
Design and build a fun, interactive maze game in Scratch that challenges and entertains players. Your game must include at least three levels with increasing difficulty, each featuring unique custom backgrounds. A fully functional lives and score system is required, allowing players to lose lives when encountering bad guys and gain lives through creative opportunities. Ensure your characters cannot walk through walls and that clear win/lose conditions are defined for each level. Include sound effects and background music to enhance the experience, and design a player character with multiple costumes, as well as at least one bad guy to create challenges. You can also incorporate bonus features, such as timed challenges or countdowns, hidden bonuses, secret passages, adaptive difficulty, or an interactive tutorial to guide players. The final game should be uploaded to your Scratch account or shared via a link, accompanied by a brief description explaining how players win or lose, the features included, and any challenges you faced and how you solved them. Your project will be assessed on creativity, level design, functionality of gameplay mechanics, inclusion of required features and bonus elements, effective use of sound and visuals, and overall polish and debugging. Plan your game carefully, test it regularly, and explore Scratch’s tools to create something truly unique and engaging. Good luck, and we can’t wait to see your amazing creations!
In this tutorial you will design a Maze background, add a main character and code the basic controls.
Create a bad guy and a scoring variable.
How to create a second level and switch between.
Create Powerups to increase life/abilities. Hide and show relevant sprites on the correct levels
Create a game over screen, a winning screen and use instructions
Are you already a Scratch Pro? Have you made a maze game before? Do you really want to push yourself? The criteria below can also be met through creating a platformer. I would highly recommend watch this course by Youtuber GriffPatch on how to create a platformer.
