If you want a durable, two-pack solution that prioritizes noise reduction and long-term maintenance-free performance for car washing and towing duties, choose scottchen PRO 5th; if you need a single, straightforward barrier specifically designed to keep your hitch clean without the mess of traditional grease, choose Klanata 10.
• scottchen PRO 5th: Its biggest strength is the dual-pack value and high-density polyethylene construction that actively dampens road vibrations and eliminates metal-on-metal noise. The trade-off is that it requires careful measurement of your pin box surface to ensure the 10-inch diameter fits correctly before purchase. This pick is ideal for RVer owners who tow frequently and want to protect their equipment from wear while enjoying a quieter ride.
• Klanata 10: Its primary advantage is its simple, no-frills ABS construction that serves as an effective grease alternative to keep trucks and hitches cleaner. The trade-off is that it comes as a single unit rather than a pair, meaning you may need to order more for backup or multiple vehicles. This pick suits drivers who want a basic, reliable shield against friction and are looking for a quick installation on standard 5th wheel setups.
The scottchen PRO 5th Wheel Hitch Lube Plate is engineered for the owner who views their towing setup as a long-term investment that needs active protection. By using high-density, wear-resistant polyethylene (HDPE), this plate does more than just sit there; it acts as a vital cushion between the hitch and the kingpin. The material is thick enough at 3/16 inch to effectively dampen road vibrations, which directly addresses the annoying "chucking" noise that often plagues 5th wheel trailers. If you spend hours on the highway with your RV or camper, the silence provided by this design is not just a luxury; it is a significant quality-of-life improvement that reduces driver fatigue.
Beyond comfort, the "No-Grease" solution offered here is a game-changer for anyone who hates the cleanup process. Traditional lubricants create a messy, sticky residue that gets on hands, clothes, and the truck bed. This black disc provides a permanent, clean barrier that keeps your equipment pristine. You get two plates in the package, which means you have a spare ready if one wears down over time or if you need to service another vehicle. The tool-free installation is equally practical; the precision-cut serrated inner ring grips the kingpin securely, allowing you to press it on by hand or tap it gently with a mallet in seconds. No drilling, no clips, and no complex tools are required to get it right.
However, this product is not for everyone. It is specifically designed for standard 5th wheel hitches with a specific pin box surface size. Because it has a 10-inch diameter, it will not fit larger pin boxes that require the 12-inch version. Before buying, you must measure your pin box surface to ensure compatibility. If your setup is non-standard or significantly larger, this product will not work. Furthermore, while the HDPE material is weather-resistant and engineered to withstand extreme temperatures without becoming brittle, it is a sacrificial component. It is meant to take the hit so your expensive hitch doesn't have to, but you should still inspect it periodically during your routine checks, especially after heavy use.

The Klanata 10 Inch ABS Fifth Wheel Hitch Lube Plate is built for the driver who wants a functional, straightforward solution to a common problem: the mess of grease. Made from high-density white ABS material, this plate creates a solid barrier between the hitch surfaces, helping to protect the fifth wheel from friction and wear during towing. It is a direct replacement for applying grease, offering a cleaner way to maintain your connection point. For those who wash their cars regularly or simply dislike the idea of slathering their truck bed and hitch with oil, this white ABS plate offers a tidy, low-maintenance alternative that keeps everything looking sharper.
Installation is designed to be as simple as possible. The 2 7/8 inch serrated center opening allows the plate to press directly onto the fifth wheel hitch pin, creating a secure fit without the need for additional hardware. The 10-inch diameter and 3/16 inch thickness provide adequate coverage for most standard setups. It is a single-unit purchase, which makes it a convenient option if you only need one plate for a specific vehicle or if you are upgrading a hitch that currently lacks any lubrication system. The white color of the ABS material also makes it easy to spot any potential debris or issues during visual inspections, adding a layer of safety to your pre-trip checks.
That said, the Klanata 10 is best suited for those who do not require the extra durability of HDPE or the peace of mind of having a second plate on hand. Since it is sold as a single unit, you might find yourself needing to order another one later if you plan to install it on multiple vehicles or want a spare for emergencies. Additionally, while the ABS material is robust, it is primarily focused on providing a friction barrier rather than the active vibration dampening found in higher-density materials. If your primary concern is reducing the physical shock of the trailer moving against the hitch, this plate serves its purpose well, but it may not offer the same level of noise cancellation as the scottchen PRO 5th. Always confirm that your towing pin diameter matches the 2 7/8 inch opening and check that your hook set does not already include a lubrication plate before purchasing.
• Best for Noise Reduction → scottchen PRO 5th, due to its high-density polyethylene that dampens vibrations and silences metal-on-metal contact.
• Best Value & Quantity → scottchen PRO 5th, offering two plates per pack versus the single unit from Klanata 10.
• Best for Cleanliness → Both excel here, but Klanata 10's white ABS design makes it visually distinct and easy to inspect for debris.
• Best for Vibration Dampening → scottchen PRO 5th, specifically engineered to reduce road chatter and improve ride smoothness.
• Best for Simple Installation → Both feature serrated rings for tool-free mounting, but Klanata 10's single-piece design is slightly less complex to handle.
• Best for Long-Term Durability → scottchen PRO 5th, with its HDPE construction designed to withstand harsh road conditions and extreme temperatures without brittleness.
• Best for Standard Pin Boxes → Both fit the 2 7/8 inch pin diameter, but scottchen PRO 5th explicitly warns users to verify pin box surface dimensions for the 10-inch fit.
• Best for Minimalist Buyers → Klanata 10, if you only need one plate and prefer a straightforward, no-frills approach to hitch maintenance.
After weighing the specifications and real-world applications of both products, I would buy the scottchen PRO 5th for my own vehicle. The decision comes down to the dual-pack value and the superior material properties of the high-density polyethylene. While the Klanata 10 is a solid, functional option for keeping grease off your hands, the scottchen PRO 5th goes further by actively reducing noise and vibration, which makes a tangible difference during long hauls. For car washing and towing, having two plates ensures you are always prepared for wear and tear, and the black finish blends seamlessly with the rugged aesthetic of a 5th wheel setup. In my opinion, the added protection and noise cancellation justify the choice over the single-unit alternative.
Yes, the high-density polyethylene material is specifically designed to act as a cushion that dampens road vibrations and effectively silences the metal-on-metal friction known as "chucking."
You must measure your pin box surface before ordering; the scottchen PRO 5th fits most standard 5th wheel hitches but will not fit larger pin boxes that require the 12-inch version.
The Klanata 10 uses high-density white ABS material, which can make it easier to spot dirt or debris compared to the black scottchen PRO 5th plate, though both serve the same protective function.
Both products are designed as "no-grease" solutions that provide a permanent barrier between the hitch and kingpin, keeping your equipment clean and maintenance-free without the mess of traditional lubricants.
