If you want a lightweight, universal vent solution that works with any phone case without requiring specific MagSafe integration, choose Scosche MagicMount Select Magnetic; if you need precise alignment for newer iPhones, a foldable long-arm design to clear dashboard clutter, and a mount specifically engineered for the CD slot, choose 1Zero MagSafe CD Phone. This decision is critical not just for your daily commute, but also when you are out on the road performing for tire maintenance or other roadside tasks where your hands must remain free and your navigation stable under vibration.
• Scosche MagicMount Select Magnetic: Its biggest strength is its universal vent compatibility and ultra-lightweight design that fits almost any air vent, while its trade-off is that it requires an external metal plate and is not natively MagSafe compatible.
• 1Zero MagSafe CD Phone: Its biggest strength is its native MagSafe alignment for iPhone 12-18 series and its clever foldable longarm that moves the phone closer to the driver, while its trade-off is that it only works in cars with standard CD slots and is significantly heavier.
• Who is this for? The Scosche pick is ideal for Android users, older iPhones, or anyone who drives multiple vehicles with different vent styles. The 1Zero pick is strictly for modern iPhone owners with MagSafe cases who want a secure, elevated view from their CD player.
The Scosche MagicMount Select Magnetic is built for versatility and minimalism. It targets drivers who prioritize a clean, low-profile setup that doesn't rely on proprietary magnetic rings embedded in the phone itself. Instead, it uses rare-earth neodymium magnets paired with an included MagicPlate to create a strong hold. This means you can use it with virtually any smartphone, regardless of whether it has built-in magnets or not. The design focuses on getting your device securely attached to the car's air vent, keeping your screen steady and visible during sharp turns or sudden stops.
For the user who performs for tire maintenance, this mount offers a distinct advantage in stability and weight. If you are working on your tires and need to quickly glance at a repair manual or GPS coordinates without fumbling with a heavy unit, the one-handed magnetic release makes switching between viewing your phone and checking the tool in your hand effortless. The flexible vent clip is designed to fit most air vents, meaning you likely won't need to buy adapters or worry about incompatible vent slats.
However, this product is not for everyone. Because it is not MagSafe compatible, you must place the MagicPlate on the outside of your case or directly on the back of your phone. If you have a thick case, you may need to remove it or ensure the plate is placed correctly to avoid interference with wireless charging. Furthermore, if you drive a vehicle with very thin or curved vents that cannot support the clip, this mount might struggle to stay put. It is best suited for those who want a reliable, no-fuss mount that does the job without requiring a specific ecosystem of accessories.

The 1Zero MagSafe CD Phone is engineered specifically for the modern iPhone user who wants precision and visibility. Unlike the Scosche, which clamps onto a vent, this unit utilizes the car's CD slot as its anchor point. Its standout feature is the foldable longarm structure, which lifts the phone higher and brings it closer to the driver's line of sight. This addresses the common issue of CD mounts being too low or obstructing buttons, allowing for an optimal viewing angle without blocking displays. The hollow socket design also accommodates phone grips and ring holders up to 1.61 inches in diameter, offering flexibility for users who already own accessories.
For someone doing for tire maintenance or navigating rough terrain, the 1Zero's construction feels substantial. It employs 17 N54 super industrial magnets bolstered by an anti-slip silicone cover. This combination creates a robust grip that resists vibration and movement, which is crucial when you are driving on bumpy roads to reach a remote work site. The 360-degree rotatable ball joint ensures you can adjust the screen to face you perfectly, even if the CD slot placement is awkward. The ability to fold the arm down minimizes obstructions when you aren't using the phone, keeping your dashboard clear.
That said, this mount has strict limitations regarding vehicle compatibility. It will not work with curved CD slots, hidden CD slots, or slots located too close to the gear shift. Specific models like the 2015 Toyota RAV4, 2018 BMW X3, or 2013 Ford Escape are explicitly listed as incompatible. If your car lacks a standard CD slot or has an unusual layout, this product is simply not an option. It is exclusively for those with compatible CD slots and MagSafe-compatible devices.
• Best for Universal Compatibility → Scosche MagicMount Select Magnetic: Works with any phone and any standard air vent, making it perfect for households with mixed device types.
• Best for Native MagSafe Integration → 1Zero MagSafe CD Phone: Offers seamless 1:1 alignment for iPhone 12 through 18 series without needing extra adhesive plates.
• Best for Dashboard Clarity → 1Zero MagSafe CD Phone: The foldable longarm design keeps the mount out of the way when folded, whereas the Scosche remains fixed on the vent.
• Best for Rough Roads → 1Zero MagSafe CD Phone: The 17 N54 magnets and silicone backing provide a heavy-duty hold that resists vibration better than the lighter Scosche.
• Best for Quick One-Handed Use → Scosche MagicMount Select Magnetic: The cradle-free design allows for instant attachment and removal with a single hand motion.
• Best for Visibility Angles → 1Zero MagSafe CD Phone: The longarm structure elevates the phone, reducing the need to look down at a low-mounted vent holder.
• Best for Tire Maintenance Navigation → 1Zero MagSafe CD Phone: The elevated position keeps your eyes closer to the road while still allowing you to check maps or instructions during roadside repairs.
In my opinion, I would choose the 1Zero MagSafe CD Phone if I were an iPhone 12 or newer owner with a compatible CD slot. The engineering behind the foldable longarm and the sheer number of magnets (17 N54) suggests a superior experience for keeping the phone secure and visible during active driving scenarios, including for tire maintenance. While the Scosche is a fantastic, lightweight alternative for general use, the 1Zero solves the specific problems of low visibility and weak magnetic hold in a way that feels more tailored to high-performance needs. However, if your car lacks a CD slot or you use an Android device, the Scosche remains the only logical choice for a reliable magnetic mount.
No, the Scosche MagicMount Select Magnetic is not MagSafe compatible. It requires you to attach the included MagicPlate to the outside of your case or directly to the phone to achieve a magnetic hold.
No, it is not compatible with curved CD slots, hidden slots, or slots located too close to the gear shift. You should verify your specific vehicle model against the incompatibility list provided by the manufacturer before purchasing.
The Scosche is the better choice if you want a minimal profile that does not add weight to your air vent.
The 1Zero MagSafe CD Phone features a hollow socket designed specifically to accommodate phone grips and ring holders with a diameter under 1.61 inches. The Scosche does not mention this feature and relies on a direct magnetic connection without a dedicated groove for accessories.
