Deadline Date for Gr.8 SSL Superintendent Award
April 4, 2025, is the MCPS deadline with NO EXCEPTIONS for Gr. 8 students trying to earn the SSL Superintendent Award. All students in MCPS must complete 75 SSL hours before graduation from High School. However, students that earn 75 or more hours by the end of their 8th grade year, will receive the SSL Superintendent Award during promotion. If students have not earned all 75 SSL hours before leaving 8th grade, they will need to complete this requirement in high school. Click here for more information. Thanksgiving Holiday Food Drive
Join us for our Thanksgiving Holiday Food Drive to ensure that all SCMS families have a wonderful Thanksgiving dinner – any and all contributions welcome!
Please donate items using this Amazon wishlist or drop off items directly at the school. There will be two boxes at SCMS to drop off canned and boxed foods. Supermarket gift cards are very welcome, and can be dropped off at the school administration office.
When donating via Amazon, please have the items shipped to the SCMS (Hamburger) address, which should be an option in the address section. Alternatively, you can have the items shipped to your house and bring them to the school. Please do not order items to be sent directly to the school, as delivery times vary from school hours.
All items should be delivered by November 20th, as we will put the baskets together for each household that week.
If we receive over 600 items, we will host a popsicle party for each grade!

PTSA Meeting and Mindfulness Program
The PTSA invites all SCMS families, students, and staff to “Mindfulness at SCMS: How to Achieve Mental Wellness & Improve Academic Success,” a session on mindfulness techniques led by Jeffrey Donald, MCPS Mindfulness Coordinator, on Tues. Nov. 12, 2024 at 7:00pm in the SCMS Media Center.
Mindfulness can help increase focus and awareness, reduce anxiety and stress, maintain motivation, improve relationships, and more. Join us to learn more!
We will begin the program with a short PTSA general membership meeting to vote on amendments to our PTSA bylaws and share some updates from the SGA (including newly-elected members) and PTSA before turning to Mr. Donald’s program. The agenda is here. We hope to see you Tuesday evening!
Financial Review Volunteers Needed!
Our PTSA bylaws require that a review of our financial records be completed by the end of the year. You do NOT have to be a CPA to volunteer to help with this important task, which includes:
Comparing balances
Checking income/expenditures and budget lines
Preparing a written report of your findings

Parent Volunteers Needed!
Parent volunteers! Please save the date for Tuesday, February 25th to chaperone the 8th grade field trip to the Holocaust Museum. In order to keep ratios small for a meaningful experience, we’ll need 25 parents to help out that day. Keep an eye out after the new year for a sign up sheet.

Thanks to parents like you, we raise the necessary funds at the beginning of every school year to bring programs and services to all of our 6th, 7th, and 8th graders throughout the school year. Our Husky Fund goal is $36,000, which allows us to implement community events, curriculum enrichment programs, technology purchases, as well as other programs that benefit our kids. We will need to raise even more if we also want to fund new initiatives like lockable cell phone pouches and the Husky Store.
Your financial support to the Husky Fund provides programming and assistance to support our children's educational experience. We look forward to continuing STEAM Night, school dances, Multicultural/International Night, the Oratorical Contest, skate nights, and Shakespeare at Silver Creek. The school is also eager to partner with the PTSA in a school-wide “PAWSitive Reinforcement Program” that aims to celebrate positive student behavior in part by opening a new school store. Support from families will be vital to help make this initiative a success.

We have many exciting events planned for this year, but we cannot make them happen without your help. There are numerous ways to get involved – at school, from home, on weekdays, evenings, or weekends.
