Ben Campbell is a Professor of Engineering at Robert Morris University and serves as a coordinator of the University Honors Program and a coordinator for outreach and impact. He teaches courses in electronics, mechatronics and engineering management. Dr. Campbell started his career as a Laser Engineer at the Penn State Electro-Optics Center specializing in laser micromachining research. He has over 25 research publications and has presented his work at several international laser conferences.
Dr. Campbell is an alumnus of Penn State and Robert Morris University. Dr. Campbell is also a 1998 graduate of Pine-Richland High School and a former member of the Pine-Richland School Board.
Dr. Campbell is one of the founders of the PGSS Campaign, a nonprofit responsible for resurrecting and funding the Pennsylvania Governor’s School for the Sciences at Carnegie Mellon University after state funding was eliminated in 2009. During his 12 years as Vice President, the nonprofit secured over $3 Million dollars to support the residential summer program and has funded over 600 full scholarships to PGSS.
In 2013, Dr. Campbell was chosen by Pittsburgh Magazine as one of their 40 under 40 winners for helping to make a difference in Western PA. He won the Carnegie Science Center’s 2022 award for “Exemplary Educational/Corporate Collaboration” for his laser welding research program.
