Gerardino D’Errico (GDE) is professor of Physical Chemistry 1 at the University of Naples Federico II. His scientific research of Gerardino D’Errico is aimed at the design, preparation and physico-chemical characterization of supramolecular aggregates formed by surfactants and/or polymers. Since the beginning of his scientific career, he has investigated anionic, cationic, non-ionic and zwitterionic surfactants, as well as their mixtures with synthetic polymers. The results have helped to establish a solid scientific basis for the rational design of industrial formulations. In the last decade a large part of his scientific activity has been devoted to the study of the interactions between natural surfactants (phospholipids, lipopolysaccharides) and biomacromolecules (peptides, proteins, polysaccharides).

In order to gain an in-depth understanding of the microstructure and behaviour of the systems under consideration, GDE approaches the system with an experimental strategy that combines spectroscopic techniques with the determination of transport properties and thermodynamic characterisation.

GDE is author of 175 papers on peer-reviewed international journals (h-index 41). GDE is external consultant of various companies working in the field of detergency or superabsorbent materials (Procter & Gamble, Cleansud, Cleprin).
