A Note to Parents:

While teachers are not able to send home lessons and assignments at this time, here are some things you could do with your child to help them stay engaged with science:

  1. Have students pick an article from Science News for Students or a video from TedEd. Ask them to summarize the article or video in 5 sentences or less. Have them come up with some questions they still have about the topic.

  2. Have them work on a TedEd Riddle

  3. Ask them to journal about their thoughts and feelings with their experience of COVID-19. Discuss with them what concerns they have, or research together answers to questions. (Check out the COVID-19 Info tab)

  4. Have them look through the interactive web-links on my Biology/Environmental science pages. I have links to games, simulations, interactive websites that they might find interesting. Ask them some questions about their experience, what they liked or didn't like, what they learned, how those activities relate to stuff we have done in class this year, etc. I am also posting an optional "weekly activity" which contains guided questions. Feel free to discuss the questions with your child, or they can email responses to me as well!

  5. This article addresses the shift in "parents as teachers" and gives some tips in how to make that more manageable! We are All Teachers Now: Resources for Parents and Kids Cooped up at Home

  6. Important skills you can work on from home Remote Learning Tips for Parents

We know it's tough and we don't expect you to become an expert overnight. If there's anything I can do to support you or resources I can provide, please don't hesitate to email me!
