Learning intention – We are preparing for our excursion to the NSW Schoolhouse Museum.
Success criteria – We can outline what we expect to see, touch, smell and hear on our excursion.
View the video. Answer or discuss the questions.
What furniture and objects are in the rooms?
What other details can you see?
What will you feel when you sit at a wooden desk?
What do you think a slate board will feel like?
What else might you get to touch?
What might you smell in the rooms?
What might you hear on your visit to the museum?
If you visit in Terms 2 or 3 you'll get to taste coal-cooked toast spread with 'cocky's joy'! What will that taste like?
Our walls were freshly painted in 2020, after the video was made.
We scraped back the old paint and found the original colours. We discovered the original 1877 orange decorative line!
The painters matched the original colours. You can see the new colours in the photo below.
We are still to add a timber dado rail between the green and yellow paint and a mantlepiece over the fire.
Use a drawing app to add these features to the photograph of the 1877 room:
Draw in a brown line where the green paint meets the yellow paint. That is a dado line.
Draw a shelf over the fire where the two colours meet. This is a mantlepiece.
Draw some objects on the shelf such as a vase of flowers and a candle.
