In this interview, I talk with Amanda Jansen (University of Delaware) and James Middleton (Arizona State University) about their book Interest Matters and Motivation Counts. The book is both a survey of the science regarding motivation to learn and an application of that science to math instruction. We talk about how motivation works, what teachers can do to foster motivation, why math sometimes isn't taught in motivating ways, and much more.
