PRIVACY POLICY
The short version
Scholia is an offline reading-notes app. It runs entirely on your device. We do not operate a server, we do not collect, store, or transmit your content, and we do not have any way to see what you import, highlight, or write. There is no account, no login, and no analytics enabled by default.
What Scholia stores
Everything Scholia creates - your library, highlights, notes, concepts, and tags - is stored in the app's private container on your iPhone or iPad. You can delete it at any time by removing the app. You can back it up manually to the Files app or iCloud Drive if you choose to enable that option in Settings.
What Scholia does not do
- It does not connect to the internet for its core functionality.
- It does not upload your files, highlights, or notes to any server.
- It does not contain any account system or user identifiers.
- It does not include third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking SDKs that are enabled by default.
- It does not share your data with Apple, with us, or with anyone else.
Files you import
When you import a PDF, text, EPUB, or image, Scholia reads that file on your device and extracts highlights and text. The original file is not copied into Scholia's storage unless you explicitly choose to keep it. Optical character recognition (OCR) uses Apple's on-device Vision framework and does not transmit images anywhere.
Optional features that use the network
A small number of optional features may use the network, and each is off by default:
- iCloud Drive sync: if you enable it, your library is synced through your personal iCloud account. Apple handles this; we never see it.
- Crash reports: if you opt in, diagnostic logs are sent to Apple through the standard iOS mechanism. We receive only the anonymized crash reports Apple forwards to developers.
You can turn each of these off in Settings -> Privacy.
Children
Scholia does not knowingly collect any information from anyone, including children under 13. The app has no network collection capability.
Your rights
Because Scholia does not collect personal data, there is nothing for us to export, correct, or delete on your behalf. Deleting the app from your device deletes all associated data.
Changes
If this policy ever changes, the updated version will be published in the app and in the app's repository. The date above will be updated.

TERMS OF USE
By using Scholia, you agree to these terms. They are intentionally short.
1. What Scholia is
Scholia is a personal tool for managing reading notes, highlights, and concepts on your own device. It is not a content library, a book store, a sharing platform, or a cloud service.
2. Content you import
You are responsible for the content you import into Scholia.
- You may only import files that you have the legal right to read and to extract personal notes from. This typically means books you have purchased, files you have created, or works that are in the public domain or otherwise lawfully accessible to you.
- You may not use Scholia to extract, store, or process content that you obtained in violation of copyright law or the terms under which the content was licensed to you.
- Scholia does not and will not attempt to remove digital rights management (DRM) from any file. You may not use Scholia as part of a workflow intended to circumvent DRM.
3. Fair and personal use
Scholia is designed for fair and personal use: your own highlights, your own notes, on your own devices. Using Scholia to build a redistributable copy of copyrighted works - for example, by OCR'ing entire books and sharing the output - is not permitted and is not a use we support.
4. No sharing or public distribution
Scholia does not include features for sharing libraries, highlights, or imported files with other users. If you choose to export your own notes for personal backup or personal writing, that is your decision and your responsibility.
5. No warranty
Scholia is provided "as is." We make no promise that the app is free of bugs, that OCR is accurate, or that highlights will always parse perfectly. You should keep backups of anything you care about.
6. No liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any loss of data, loss of time, or other damages arising from your use of Scholia.
7. Termination
You can stop using Scholia at any time by deleting it. We can stop distributing it at any time. Neither action has any effect on data already stored on your device.
8. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the jurisdiction in which the developer resides. Disputes will be resolved in that jurisdiction's courts.
9. Changes
If these terms change, the updated version will be published in the app and in the app's repository. Continued use after a change means you accept the new terms.
