Privacy Policy
Scholar Research Library is a Google Chrome extension designed to enhance research workflows on Google Scholar.
Data stored locally
Most user-specific data is stored locally in the user's browser using Chrome extension storage. This may include research notes, reading priorities, saved DOI and PDF information, journal-metric cache, extension preferences, backup data, and locally learned journal Impact Factor records.
Scholar Research Library does not require users to create an account and does not collect Google account passwords or Google Scholar login credentials.
Google Scholar website content
The extension reads information displayed on supported Google Scholar pages in order to provide its features. This may include publication titles, authors, journal or source names, publication years, citation counts, links, DOI information, and related publication metadata.
This information is used to display research tools, journal metrics, organize publications, and create Excel exports.
External scholarly services
The extension may send publication titles, DOI values, journal names, or ISSNs to external scholarly services such as Crossref and OpenAlex in order to resolve canonical publication and journal metadata.
The extension may also access supported official publisher websites to locate publisher-reported journal Impact Factor information.
OpenAlex API key
Users may optionally provide an OpenAlex API key. If provided, the key is stored locally in Chrome extension storage and is used only for requests to OpenAlex.
Shared Impact Factor database
Scholar Research Library may download a public, read-only JSON database of verified journal Impact Factor information from Dropbox. This database contains journal-level information such as journal title, ISSN, Impact Factor, IF year, publisher, and official source URL.
The shared database is cached locally and is normally refreshed no more than once every 24 hours.
Reading the shared database does not upload the user's Google Scholar profile, library, notes, priorities, PDFs, exported spreadsheets, search history, or personal paper list to Dropbox.
Community Impact Factor contributions
If an Impact Factor cannot be resolved automatically, users may optionally contribute a journal-level Impact Factor together with an official source URL.
Such contributions contain only journal-level information such as journal title, ISSN, Impact Factor, optional IF year, publisher, and official source URL. They do not contain Google account information, Scholar profile information, personal library data, notes, priorities, PDFs, or exported spreadsheets.
Contributions are reviewed before being added to the shared verified database.
Excel exports
Scholar Research Library can export publication data from supported Google Scholar search pages, My Library pages, labels, and public Google Scholar author profiles to Excel files.
Export files are generated locally on the user's device.
Analytics and advertising
Scholar Research Library does not use advertising SDKs and does not sell user data.
Donations
The extension is free to use. Optional donations do not unlock additional functionality and are not required to use any feature.
Third-party services
External services used by the extension may include Google Scholar, Crossref, OpenAlex, Dropbox, DOI resolution services, and supported scholarly publisher websites. Their own privacy policies apply to requests made to those services.
Data sharing
Scholar Research Library does not sell user data and does not use user data for purposes unrelated to the extension's research functionality, advertising, creditworthiness, or lending.
