Introduction to Digital Media is a survey class designed to give students a more advanced working knowledge of how to use applications found in the Google Workspace suite. During the course, students will learn how to use the Google Education Suite (known as Google Workspace) to become responsible digital citizens at Schaghticoke Middle School.
Throughout the course, students will be working on a number of projects which will be showcased on a Google Sites Digital Portfolio that will serve as a collective of all of their projects both in this class and in other subject areas to create an online resume of their digital literacy skills.
The goal of this course is to present an overview of how technology and global collaboration skills can be used to help them prepare for their futures by giving them real world activities and problems to solve. Students will gain confidence in their digital literacy skills by understanding how to use word processors, spreadsheets, presentation tools, graphic designing applications, and more in a way that is slightly different than they have in the past.

Each class will be a hybrid of traditional discussion and lab. Students will earn participation badges for their work in class each day.
Throughout the semester, students will be assigned homework to reinforce their understanding of the course material and to provide opportunities for practical application. These assignments may take various forms, including short written assignments and tech projects. It is essential that all work be completed and submitted on time to ensure the smooth progress of projects and the timely completion of the course.
Written assignments will typically involve analyzing and synthesizing course concepts, applying theories to real-world scenarios, and conducting research. They may include essays, reports, or critical reviews. Tech projects, on the other hand, will provide hands-on experience with technology tools and software relevant to the field. Students may be required to create websites, develop mobile apps, or design interactive multimedia presentations.
To facilitate efficient submission and feedback, all assignments must be submitted through Google Classroom. Failure to submit work on time through the designated platform will result in point deductions for lateness. This policy is in place to encourage timely completion, ensure fairness to all students, and maintain the integrity of the course schedule.
Regular completion of homework assignments is crucial for students' success. Homework assignments provide opportunities for students to practice and refine their skills, deepen their understanding of the material, and prepare for exams. Additionally, completing assignments on time demonstrates students' commitment to the course and their personal and academic growth.
