Welcome Back!

It is a pleasure and a great honor to greet you as your Shelby County Education Association President!

Currently, I am an English Language Arts educator at Montevallo Middle School and have been teaching in Shelby County since 2006 and an AEA member since my first days of a new teacher in 2005; thus, while fresh out of college, I realized the necessity of being a member of an organization that will consistently work to serve its members.

I have received many years of leadership training with AEA as an Association Representative, SCEA Parliamentarian, AEA Emerging Leader, SCEA District 4 Board of Directors Representative, Uniserv Council Secretary as well as a plethora of additional training that AEA offers its members.

As your president, know that I am here to serve! For, I learned as a young child the power of service through my grandmother who retold vivid accounts of marching alongside Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., who sought fair and equal treatment of community members as well as seeking the inclusiveness of all. I offer you assurance that your SCEA President, the SCEA Board of Directors, local Association Representatives, and the Uniserv Director will work as a team to serve you each day, because we know that “Individually, we are one drop. Together, we are an ocean.” The Alabama Education Association proves its “togetherness” to you whenever a dilemma arises.

Currently, we understand your concern, your worry, and your fear about the upcoming school year. Whatever affects one member directly, affects us all indirectly; therefore, be assured that AEA is working behind the scenes and in the forefront as your voice. We are the ONLY professional organization with membership in each school district in the state Alabama; therefore, you have your own personal army fighting for you daily.

As we begin this new school year, remember: When we work towards serving others, it not only lightens any burden we may have, but it also gives a sense of peace and of joy that cannot be achieved elsewhere.
