**Effective date:** 9 August 2026
**Last updated:** 9 August 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how **MGS** ("we", "us", or "our") handles information in connection with the mobile application **Scanly – PDF Scanner & Reader** (the "App"). By downloading or using the App, you agree to the practices described in this policy.
If you do not agree with this policy, please do not use the App.
---
## 1. Summary (the short version)
- Your scanned documents and PDFs are stored **locally on your device**. We do **not** upload, collect, or have access to them.
- We do **not** require you to create an account or provide your name, email, or phone number to use the App.
- We use **Google AdMob** to show ads and **Google Firebase Analytics** to understand app usage. These services may collect certain device and usage information, including an advertising identifier.
- The App requests only the permissions it needs to function (such as Camera for scanning).
---
## 2. Information We Do NOT Collect
- We do **not** collect, store, or transmit the content of your scans, documents, or PDFs. All documents you create or import stay on your device (and in your device's storage or any backup you configure).
- We do **not** collect personal identifiers such as your name, email address, phone number, or contacts.
- We do **not** require account registration or login.
---
## 3. Information Collected Automatically by Third-Party Services
To keep the App free, we use third-party services that may automatically collect limited information:
### a) Google AdMob (Advertising)
The App displays ads through Google AdMob. AdMob may collect and process:
- An **advertising identifier** (Advertising ID)
- Device information (device model, operating system, language, general region)
- Ad interaction data (ads shown, clicks) and approximate, non-precise usage signals
This information is used to serve and measure ads. Learn more in Google's policies:
- How Google uses information: https://policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites
- AdMob/Ad ID: https://support.google.com/admob/answer/6128543
### b) Google Firebase Analytics
We use Firebase Analytics to understand how the App is used (e.g., which features are opened, session counts, crashes). Firebase may collect:
- App usage and event data
- Device and diagnostic information
- An analytics/instance identifier
Learn more:
- Firebase Privacy: https://firebase.google.com/support/privacy
- Google Privacy Policy: https://policies.google.com/privacy
We use this aggregated data only to improve the App's performance, stability, and features.
---
## 4. Device Permissions
The App requests the following permissions, only for the stated purposes:
| Permission | Why it is used |
|---|---|
| **Camera** | To scan documents, IDs, business cards, and QR/barcodes. Images are processed on your device. |
| **Internet / Network state** | To load ads and analytics, and to check connectivity. |
| **Biometric / Fingerprint** | Optional App Lock, so you can protect the App with your fingerprint or PIN. |
You can revoke permissions at any time in your device's system settings. Some features may not work without the permissions they require.
---
## 5. On-Device Processing
Document scanning and text recognition (OCR) are performed **on your device**. The content of your documents is not sent to us or to third parties for these features.
---
## 6. Data Storage and Security
- Documents and app data are stored locally on your device.
- Optional features such as **App Lock** (fingerprint/PIN) and **password-protecting a PDF** help you keep files private.
- While we take reasonable measures to protect information handled by the App, no method of electronic storage is 100% secure. You are responsible for securing your device and any backups you enable.
---
## 7. Advertising Identifier and Your Choices
You can control ad personalization and reset or delete your Advertising ID:
- **Android:** Settings → Google → Ads (options may vary by device).
You may also opt out of personalized advertising through your device settings. Ads may still appear but may be less relevant.
---
## 8. Children's Privacy
The App is **not directed to children under the age of 13** (or the equivalent minimum age in your jurisdiction). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us information, please contact us and we will take appropriate steps.
---
## 9. Your Rights (GDPR / CCPA and similar laws)
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or restrict the processing of personal data, and to object to certain processing.
Because we do not collect personal data directly, most requests relating to advertising and analytics data are handled by the third-party providers named above. You can exercise many choices through your device settings and the provider links in Sections 3 and 7. You may also contact us using the details below.
- We do **not** sell your personal information.
---
## 10. Data Retention
We do not store your documents or personal data on our servers. Analytics and advertising data are retained by the respective providers (Google) according to their own retention policies. Documents remain on your device until you delete them (deleted files may stay in the in-app Trash for up to 30 days before permanent removal).
---
## 11. International Data Transfers
The third-party services we use (Google) may process information on servers located in countries other than your own. Those transfers are governed by the providers' privacy policies and applicable safeguards.
---
## 12. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted at this URL with an updated "Last updated" date. Your continued use of the App after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
---
