Please read these Terms of Use ("Terms") carefully before using the Scan Halal: AI Food Checker mobile application ("Scan Halal", "the App", "we", "us", or "our").
By downloading, installing, or using Scan Halal, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree to these Terms, do not use the App.
1. ACCEPTANCE OF TERMS
By accessing or using Scan Halal, you confirm that you are at least 13 years of age and agree to comply with and be bound by these Terms, as well as our Privacy Policy.
2. DESCRIPTION OF SERVICE
Scan Halal is an AI-powered mobile application that analyzes food product images to determine halal compliance. The App provides:
- AI-based ingredient analysis and halal status determination
- E-code and additive identification
- Health score assessments
- Dietary and allergen information
- Religious context and educational content
- AI chat for follow-up questions about products
3. IMPORTANT DISCLAIMER — NOT A RELIGIOUS AUTHORITY
Scan Halal uses artificial intelligence to analyze food products. The App is intended as an informational tool only and is NOT a substitute for consultation with qualified Islamic scholars, halal certification bodies, or religious authorities.
3.1 AI Limitations
- Our AI analysis is based on visible ingredients and packaging information.
- The AI may not detect all ingredients, especially those not listed on labels.
- Analysis accuracy depends on image quality and the completeness of ingredient labels.
- AI technology can make errors in identification and classification.
3.2 No Guarantee of Accuracy
We do not guarantee that our halal status determinations are 100% accurate. Factors that may affect accuracy include:
- Hidden or undisclosed ingredients
- Manufacturing processes not visible on labels
- Cross-contamination during production
- Regional variations in ingredient sourcing
- Changes in product formulations
3.3 User Responsibility
Users should:
- Use the App as a starting point for their own research, not as a definitive ruling
- Consult with trusted Islamic scholars or halal certification bodies for definitive guidance
- Verify critical halal determinations through independent sources
- Exercise personal judgment in making dietary decisions
4. SUBSCRIPTIONS AND PAYMENTS
4.1 Free and Premium Tiers
Scan Halal offers both free (limited scans) and premium subscription tiers. Premium subscriptions unlock unlimited scans and full access to all features.
4.2 Subscription Plans
- Weekly Subscription: Billed weekly with a 3-day free trial for first-time subscribers
- Yearly Subscription: Billed annually
4.3 Payment
All payments are processed through Apple's App Store. By subscribing, you agree to Apple's Terms and Conditions for in-app purchases.
4.4 Auto-Renewal
Subscriptions automatically renew unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the end of the current billing period. You can manage and cancel your subscription at any time through your Apple ID account settings.
4.5 Free Trial
If offered, the free trial period begins when you start your subscription. Any unused portion of the free trial is forfeited when you purchase a subscription.
4.6 Refunds
Refund requests are handled by Apple in accordance with their refund policies. We do not process refunds directly.
5. ACCEPTABLE USE
You agree not to:
- Use the App for any unlawful purpose
- Attempt to reverse-engineer, decompile, or disassemble the App
- Interfere with or disrupt the App's servers or networks
- Use automated systems or software to extract data from the App
- Misrepresent the App's analysis results as certified religious rulings
- Redistribute or commercially exploit the App's content without permission
6. INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY
All content, features, and functionality of Scan Halal — including but not limited to text, graphics, logos, icons, images, audio, software, and the AI analysis system — are the exclusive property of Scan Halal and are protected by international copyright, trademark, and other intellectual property laws.
7. USER-GENERATED CONTENT
Any photos you submit for analysis are processed in real time and are not stored on our servers. Scan results stored on your device are for your personal use only.
8. LIMITATION OF LIABILITY
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW:
8.1 Scan Halal, its developers, affiliates, and partners shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of the App.
8.2 We shall not be liable for any dietary decisions made based on the App's analysis, including but not limited to any health issues, allergic reactions, or religious concerns arising from consuming products analyzed by the App.
8.3 Our total liability for any claims arising from these Terms or your use of the App shall not exceed the amount you paid for the App in the 12 months preceding the claim.
9. INDEMNIFICATION
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Scan Halal, its developers, and affiliates from any claims, damages, losses, or expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising from your use of the App or violation of these Terms.
10. MODIFICATIONS TO THE APP AND TERMS
10.1 We reserve the right to modify, suspend, or discontinue the App (or any part thereof) at any time without notice.
10.2 We may update these Terms from time to time. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.
11. TERMINATION
We may terminate or suspend your access to the App at any time, without prior notice, for conduct that we believe violates these Terms or is harmful to other users, us, or third parties.
12. GOVERNING LAW
These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the jurisdiction in which the App developer is located, without regard to conflict of law principles.
13. SEVERABILITY
If any provision of these Terms is found to be unenforceable or invalid, that provision shall be limited or eliminated to the minimum extent necessary, and the remaining provisions shall remain in full force and effect.
14. ENTIRE AGREEMENT
These Terms, together with our Privacy Policy, constitute the entire agreement between you and Scan Halal regarding your use of the App.
