A cancer survivor has revealed he had a blue scalp after claiming a tattooist botched his attempt to cover up fake hair. The Christchurch tattooists attached their pins to the hairline of a bald man to create the look of a full head, the New Zealand Herald reports. Micropigmentation of the scalp (SMP) was first discovered in Australia in the late 1990s, and its roots lie in tattooing of the scalp. Hair transplants employ tattooists to draw millions of hair follicles on shaved heads to reproduce a freshly shaved look. It is a process in which thousands of tiny dots are tattooed on a person's hairline, giving the illusion of "hair.

Unlike traditional tattoos, SMP is basically tattooed, and needles are used to layer pigment dots on the scalp tattoo so that the dots look like they have been tattooed.

Hair tattooing resembles natural pigments applied on the superficial level of the scalp. If you currently have a receding hairline and are used to wearing a shaved head, the hairline tattoo will blend with the stubble that naturally grows on your head.
