FLUID MECHANICS: DRAINAGE PROBLEM AND CALCULUS

INTRODUCTION

In Agriculture sector, as the the technology is progressing, we came across many automated irrigation pumps. It automatically stops after some time as they are programmed to do so by calculating the rate of its flow through the water tank.

By properly considering all the factors effecting in this process by applying Calculus and some principles of fluid mechanics, we can easily calculate the rate of flow of water through the tank at any instant and how does this rate change with the change in height of water level and eventually we can also calculate the time to empty the tank.

In this project I am going to try to analytically find the time of flow of drainage through a tank using Principle of Continuity , Torricelli’s theorem and applying First Order Differential Equation. The simpler problems can be solved by just Torricelli’s theorem, but for complex ones, Calculus is required.
