The mission of our program is to provide an exciting, school-based STEM program which provides students the opportunity to collaborate with peers and mentors in engaging STEM activities. The project-based curriculum is designed to challenge and stimulate students' interest in further STEM studies, helping prepare them for advanced high school courses and STEM-related majors in college, as well as solidifying their attachment to and engagement with school.
STARBASE Louisiana 2.0 is a Department of Defense STEM education outreach program housed at Barksdale Air Force Base in northwest Louisiana. An extension of the baseline STARBASE Louisiana program for 5th grade students, the STARBASE Louisiana 2.0 program was founded in 2012 and works with approximately 200 local middle and high school students each year in the Shreveport-Bossier area. We employ an integrative, multidisciplinary approach to education, challenging our students to collaborate to design creative solutions to engineering problems.
