If you want a lightweight, direct OEM replacement specifically for your Piaggio Fly 4T motorcycle, choose SBC Air filter compatible; if you need a heavy-duty filtration system with a pre-filter sponge designed for Kawasaki FJ180V engines, choose Congparts 11029-0032.
• SBC Air filter compatible: Its biggest strength is its precise, minimalist design tailored exclusively for the Piaggio Fly 4T, while its trade-off is the lack of additional filtration layers or a pre-filter unit. This pick is for the Piaggio owner seeking a simple, weight-saving swap that matches the original equipment exactly.
• Congparts 11029-0032: Its biggest strength is the inclusion of a high-density pleated paper element paired with a sponge pre-filter and rubber seal ring to trap larger particles, whereas its trade-off is significantly higher weight and a design built only for specific Kawasaki small engine models. This pick is for owners of FJ180V series mowers or industrial equipment who face dusty conditions and need maximum debris protection.
The SBC Air filter compatible is a specialized component designed with a singular purpose in mind: replacing the air intake filter on the Piaggio Fly 4T scooter. The data sheet confirms this unit is an exact fit for the 50cc models produced between 2008 and 2011, which operate within a speed range of 25-30 Km/H. This figure suggests an extremely light construction, likely using minimal material to meet the strict dimensional requirements of the scooter's carburetor intake without adding unnecessary mass to the vehicle.
For the rider who prioritizes a direct bolt-on experience, this product offers a straightforward solution. It references the OEM part number 832972, indicating that it is manufactured to match the factory specifications precisely. There is no mention of extra layers, pre-filters, or complex sealing rings in the provided details. This simplicity is its primary feature. If you have a vintage Piaggio Fly sitting in your garage that needs routine maintenance, this filter provides the clean air path the engine was designed for without introducing variables that could alter the airflow dynamics of the stock setup.
However, this product is not for everyone. It is strictly limited to the Piaggio ecosystem. If you own any other make of scooter, motorcycle, or even a different model year of the Fly, this part will not work. Furthermore, if your riding habits involve off-road terrain where dust and debris are constant threats, the lack of a visible pre-filter stage in the description might be a concern. This is a street-focused component intended for standard road use on the specified 50cc scooter. You should skip this option if you are trying to upgrade your filtration capabilities beyond the stock design or if you are working on a Kawasaki machine. It is a niche part for a specific bike, not a universal upgrade.

In stark contrast to the lightweight Piaggio part, the Congparts 11029-0032 is engineered for robustness and versatility within the small engine world. This air filter set is explicitly compatible with a wide array of Kawasaki FJ180V Series engines, covering models AS30 through AS40. The design philosophy here focuses heavily on filtration efficiency in demanding environments. The product features a high-density pleated filter paper that maximizes surface area to trap dirt and debris more effectively than standard flat filters. Additionally, the inclusion of a high-quality rubber seal ring ensures a tight fit that prevents unfiltered air from bypassing the media entirely.
What sets this product apart is the addition of a sponge pre-filter. This two-stage approach is critical for applications like lawn mowers, trimmers, or industrial blowers that operate outdoors in grassy, sandy, or dusty conditions. This is not a lightweight accessory; it is a substantial piece of hardware designed to protect expensive internal engine components from premature wear.
This filter is ideal for homeowners and professionals who run outdoor power equipment seasonally. If you are dealing with a Kawasaki FJ180V engine and find yourself constantly battling clogged intakes or poor performance due to dust, this combo offers a superior defense. It replaces multiple older part numbers, including 11029-0019 and 11029-7023, making it a versatile choice for those maintaining legacy machinery. However, if you are looking for a part for a scooter, a car, or any vehicle outside the specific Kawasaki FJ180V family, this product is useless to you. It is too bulky and specifically tuned for the combustion chambers of these small gasoline engines. Do not buy this if you need a lightweight solution for a 50cc scooter.
• Best for Piaggio Fly 4T owners → SBC Air filter compatible, as it is the only one listed for this specific motorcycle platform.
• Best for Kawasaki FJ180V engine owners → Congparts 11029-0032, designed specifically for AS30 through AS40 models.
• Best for heavy-duty filtration → Congparts 11029-0032, featuring a dual-layer system with a sponge pre-filter and pleated paper.
• Best for off-road/dusty conditions → Congparts 11029-0032, due to the reinforced sealing and pre-filter sponge mentioned in the specs.
• Best for simple OEM replacement → SBC Air filter compatible, offering a direct match to OEM part number 832972 without extra components.
• Best for comprehensive engine protection → Congparts 11029-0032, which includes a complete package with a pre-filter to extend the life of the main filter.
• Best for urban commuting → SBC Air filter compatible, optimized for the controlled environment of city streets on a 50cc scooter.
I recommend the Congparts 11029-0032 if your project involves protecting a small engine in a rugged environment. The engineering behind the pleated paper and sponge pre-filter represents a more thoughtful approach to filtration for outdoor power equipment, ensuring that dust and debris do not destroy the cylinder walls over time. However, for the specific case of hunting trips where you might be carrying a scooter or light utility vehicle into remote areas, I would choose the SBC Air filter compatible solely because it fits the Piaggio Fly 4T perfectly without adding unnecessary bulk. Ultimately, if you are running a Kawasaki mower, the Congparts unit is the clear winner for durability. If you are on a scooter, the SBC unit is the only logical choice. In my opinion, buying the wrong one based on brand loyalty alone is a waste of money; you must match the part to the engine family first.
No, the Congparts filter is designed exclusively for Kawasaki FJ180V Series engines (AS30–AS40) and will not physically fit or function correctly in a Piaggio Fly 4T scooter.
According to the product specifications, the SBC Air filter compatible is a single-unit replacement matching OEM 832972 and does not list a separate pre-filter sponge in its package contents.
While physically possible to force a fit with modifications, the Congparts filter is not designed for the Piaggio Fly 4T carburetor dimensions and may restrict airflow or cause leaks, so it is not recommended.
