How students complete assignments in Canvas

In this tutorial we will show you how students complete Savvas assignments right in Canvas. We show you you can use the Student View to impersonate a test student and try out the student experience yourself.

Step by step directions

Using Student View

As a teacher you can try out your course as a student. Simply click on Student View to impersonate a test student.

You are now logged in as a test student. At the bottom of the screen in the pink bar it tells you are in Student View.

Completing assignments within the Canvas course

While in Student View you can open assignments right in Canvas and try the assignments out yourself.

Savvas Realize is continuously saving student work which means:

If you or your students get the following message:

Hang tight!
Your teacher must set up your class in Realize

All you need to do is open any Savvas assignment from your course just once. This will prompt Savvas to create your class in Savvas Realize which must be done by the teacher.

As a student, you complete assessments right within Canvas.

When students are done they can turn in their assignments within Canvas.

Grades from Savvas Realize are automatically synced to the Canvas gradebook. When students complete an assignment and it is graded the students can see their grades within their Canvas course

Important: Canvas does NOT display grades when you are using the Student View account. You will not be able to see the grades from your Student View account that are being synced from Savvas Realize to the Canvas gradebook.

Launching Savvas Realize from Canvas

Students can always launch Savvas Realize from an assignment by simply clicking the Launch Savvas Realize button.

The Canvas integration with Savvas Realize gives students the full power and functionality of Savvas Realize, right inside Canvas. In Realize, students can view their eText and Tools associated with their class.

Students can also access the full Savvas program inside of Realize.
