Prof Satya Brat Tiwari specialises in resource recovery from solid and liquid waste. He completed his PhD on phosphorus recovery from sewage sludge using thermochemical treatment and his Master's work on improving biogas production during anaerobic digestion using conductive materials. Prof Tiwari is the group leader of the Advanced Resource Recovery Technologies for a Healthy Anthroposphere (ARTHA) Lab at IIT Kharagpur. ARTHA (अर्थ) in Hindi and Sanskrit means wealth, embodying the spirit of recovering wealth from waste. His research centres on translational science—bridging laboratory research with real-world environmental applications. He is passionate about developing scalable technologies that create sustainable solutions from waste streams. Beyond research, Prof Tiwari enjoys travelling, swimming, and reading non-fiction. He welcomes collaboration with researchers and industry partners working toward sustainable resource recovery solutions.
