Dr. Solomon Atnafu Besufekad is currently Associate Professor at the Department of Computer Science, Addis Ababa University. Dr. Solomon got his PhD degree from "Laboratoire d'InfoRmatique en Image et Systèmes d'information", INSA Lyon, France, in July 2003; his MSc in Computer Science from Technical University of Dresden, Germany, in 1989; and his BSc degree in Mathematics from Department of Mathematics, Addis Ababa University (AAU), Ethiopia in 1983.

He has offered several courses both at the graduate program level and at the undergraduate level of the Department of Computer Science. Among the courses that he taught are: “Multimedia- and Spatial-Data Management (CoSc 6202)”, “Distributed Database Systems (CoSc 6201)”, “Seminar in Data & Web Engineering (CoSc 6208)”, and Database Management system (Comp 361)”. During his career so far, he has published and co-published more than seventy research papers on reputable journals, peer-reviewed International and national conference proceedings. He advised and co-advised six PhD students in their dissertation. He also advised more than seventy five graduate students in their MSc thesis research works on different subjects. He has served as Head of the Department of Computer Science during the period February 2006 to August 2009 and as Associate Director of the Center for IT Research and Innovation at the IT Doctoral Program of AAU from July 2011 to September 2016.
