Direct Notification: The ESP8266, equipped with a Wi-Fi module, can transmit a message directly to authorized personnel's smartphones or designated communication platforms. This message will pinpoint the location of the issue, allowing for a swift response.
Cloud-Based Monitoring: Additionally, the sensor readings are continuously uploaded to the ThingSpeak cloud platform. This enables remote monitoring of wastewater levels and historical data analysis. This data can be crucial for identifying recurring blockage patterns and optimizing maintenance schedules.
The system utilizes a breadboard to interface an ultrasonic sensor and a DHT11 sensor with an ESP8266 (NodeMCU) microcontroller. Power (VCC) and ground connections are common across all three components. The ultrasonic sensor's echo (output) pin connects to D6 of the ESP8266, while its trigger (input) pin connects to D7. The DHT11 sensor's data pin connects to D5 of the ESP8266 for data transmission. This configuration allows the ESP8266 to process sensor readings and transmit the ultrasonic distance measurement to the ThingSpeak cloud platform.
The deployment strategy involves installing the device under the manhole cover, enabling continuous monitoring and data transmission of sewage levels. An initial test run will establish a reference value representing the typical wastewater level during normal flow. Subsequent readings will be compared to this reference point to detect potential blockages. An increase in water level beyond the reference value suggests a blockage downstream, while a significant decrease might indicate a blockage within the connecting pipe itself. This approach facilitates proactive maintenance by providing early indications of potential issues within the sewage system.
