Sara Vliet, Ph.D.

Research Biologist, US EPA

As a scientist, I am interested in understanding how stressors, such as chemical pollution, can impact the environment and the diverse organisms living in it. In order to protect the ecosystems that sustain us and make informed regulatory decisions, it's crucial to identify potentially harmful chemicals, sensitive species, and at-risk environments.

Currently, I am a Biologist at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Office of Research and Development, Scientific Computing and Data Curation Division. My current work focuses on the development and implementation of tools to better understand how chemical toxicity data can be pulled from public data sources and scientific literature.

My scientific interests are focused on improving the efficiency of safety assessments for environmentally-relevant chemicals, incorporating data science into New Approach Methodologies for toxicity testing (NAMs), developmental and endocrine toxicities, computational strategies for chemical prioritization, and methods for extrapolating chemical toxicity data across species.
