Freeze, Bees

Freeze, Bees is an activity that encourages learners to practice rhyme using movement.

Steps:

1. Find or clear a large space. Ask your learners to spread out in the space, being mindful of their personal space bubbles.

2. Once your learners are spread throughout the space, tell them to freeze. Write "freeze" on a chalkboard, whiteboard, or poster, if possible.

3. After a moment, ask your learners to become bees! Encourage them to move about the space! If possible, write "bees" below "freeze."

4. Alternate between calling out "Freeze!" and "Bees!" a few times. Then, ask your learners for another word that rhymes with "freeze" and "bees." When someone's come up with one, ask them to show the class a movement that could go with it! Then, write that word down with "freeze" and "bees" (if you're keeping a list) and call it out along with "freeze" and "bees."

5. Continue periodically asking for new rhyming words. If you'd like, restart the game with a different pair of rhyming words - for example, "fox" and "socks" or "cat" and "hat."
