Sarah Deschênes

I am a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Economics Department of Northwestern University. I hold a Ph.D. in Economics (2022) from the Paris School of Economics. I was co-hosted by the French Institute for Demographic Studies (Ined) during my Ph.D. thesis.

I am on the 2022/2023 Job Market.

I am an applied microeconomist. My research focuses on development economics, family and gender economics, intimate partner violence (IPV) and agriculture in sub-Saharan Africa.

In my job market paper, I investigate the impact of an aggregate shock of human capital on the marriage market in Nigeria and I establish how it affects women’s empowerment.

I am a member of the Pan-African Scientific Research Council (PASRC).
