I am currently in a dual Master's of Arts in Teaching and Teaching Credential program at the University of California, Irvine as a Single-Subject math candidate. After graduating in Summer 2022, I intend to teach math at the secondary level. For undergrad, I received a Bachelor's Degree in Economics with a specialization in teaching at the University of California, Berkeley. Additionally, I student taught at Garden Grove High School where I co-taught two Algebra 2 math courses.
I am an inquisitive individual whose primary interests are in creating equitable educational spaces, and curriculum that inspires innovation, purposeful learning, and passion for social justice. My teaching philosophy regarding math is to teach through a trauma-informed, and healing lens. I understand that math is the source of educational trauma for students of color in particular, and lack of accessible or visible application in the discipline have resulted in disengagement in the classroom.
I plan to utilize what I’ll learned as an educator to advocate for more beneficial educational policies (eg. increased funding towards public after-school programs, abolishing the school-to-prison pipeline, etc.), and promote the voice of students - especially Black, Brown, and Indigenous folx.
