This was the 1948 layout of Umkomaas Station on the South Coast line, once the newly constructed deviation bridge was completed. The lever frame consisted of 24 levers. Method of Train Control during this time might of been Wooden train Staff & Paper Tickets to Scottburgh & Umgababa. By November 1953, A new spur siding was constructed upstream of the Mkomazi River to the new Sappi Saiccor factory which was under construction. The Spur branched off from the old alignment that was remaining up to the old river bridge. The station began to be very busy, as the construction of the new factory was underway with materials being railed down, and later once the factory was operating, timber traffic. By the late 1960's the Station started to expand due to the demands at the time.
