Sarnia was a very busy station in its heyday, with 2 service lines running North and South out the sidings. It had a signal cabin of 24 Levers with track circuiting. By the 1970's it was decided to raise platform to accommodate 5M2A suburban sets, and in the early 1980's the platform was lengthened, with crossover Points No.9 and the Route signal having to be removed. The Bullbrand Fertilizer service line (formally Frank Steven's Brickfields siding in 1917) to Paradise Valley was in the South, which closed in the late 1960's or early 1970's and the line lifted, becoming a Dead End siding out of Sarnia. To the North was the Electricity Supply Company Power Station Siding in New Germany, that was built in the 1940's. A Wooden Train Staff was used that read "SARNIA YARD - SIDING 2156". There were a few block loads of coal being delivered to New Germany on a daily basis, however this came to an end by the early 1990's and by 1992 the power station was demolished and the line uplifted. From then Sarnia only had a single daily suburban crossing taking place Monday to Friday's until 1996. There after Sarnia was seldom open for trains working, and crossover points 16 & 17 were removed, By early 2000, it was decided to close the station permanently on the 1st April 2000. The Signals were removed and points 5 & 20 clamped for the Mainline, but still connected to the Lever Frame for a while.
