This 1960's layout of the Hilton shows it had Special Interlocking & Backstroke Locking on the Home Signals. During this time, Van Schoor Absolute was in use to Winterskloof & Cedara. By the 1980's Passenger Service over this line was coming to an end and Goods Traffic dwindling. During this time Umgeni Steam Railway moved in at Hilton and started to run Steam trains to Cedara and Howick. By 1987 with the great floods, the line was washed away at Sweetwaters, and it was decided to lift the line from Boughton to Hilton. The line remained in use from Cedara to Hilton. In 1991, it was decided to close Hilton station, and all signalling was disconnected and hand tumblers installed where the mechanical points were. Today even though trains do not operate here anymore, the Signal Cabin, Station & surrounds are a static Museum run by the Hilton Steam Heritage Association.
