This was the 1960's layout of Duff's Road Station on the North Coast Mainline, with a new Branch line to the township of Kwa Mashu. This was the latest Route Relay Interlocking system at the time, which replaced all of mechanical semaphore stations up to New Guelderland at the time, apart from Shakaskraal. There was a common name for this type of setup, which was nicknamed a "NFG" panel, originating from Norman Husemeyer, Chris Fourie and Arthur Golding. They were the engineers who developed it based on a British system. Method of Train Control over the old line was Van Schoor Absolute to Avoca in the 60's, and then by the 1970's the section was to Red Hill. By the end of the 70's, Red Hill had closed and then the section became longer to Greenwood Park. By 2002, Greenwood Park station closed and was converted to a VDU, controlled from Durban C.T.C., which this panel had to be adapted to that new system block to GWP, a few signals were changed and added at that time. On the Main Line, Uni-directional colourlights were in operation to Effingham (with Block Bells), and Kwa Mashu (which was remotely operated by this panel). There was also Twin Single lines that were in operation to Phoenix, controlled by Block Bells & Releases. By 2010, construction had started on a new Branch Line to Bridge City (which took off between 11/13 & the Kwa Mashu Branch. This meant a whole re-design of the station and points, and a new Siemens VDU computer interlocking system was introduced. The signal cabin and this panel closed by 2014, and the station was then controlled by Durban C.T.C.
