Van Der Stel, is a small junction station for the suburban line to Strand, The mainline continues on over Sir Lowry's Pass to Caledon and Bredasdorp. The signal cabin had a frame of 12 levers. Trains can only cross here outside the station, as long as it is a freight train from the Pass, & a Suburban passenger to or from Strand, otherwise crossing would be arranged at Somerset West. This late 1960's diagram shows a Intersiding on the way to Sir Lowry's pass.
