This 1960's layout of Elgin was a detector station, having hand tumblers worked at the points, and with home & route signals worked from the lever frame in the signal cabin. The frame had 8 levers. Many other stations on this line to Bredasdorp had a similar set up, including Sir Lowry's Pass, Bot River & Caledon. By 1987 the semaphore signals were disconnected and the station was closed. Now days, just the Mainline & the loop line exist.
