Hello! My name is Sandy Hanna, and I have an ardent desire for creating art every second I get. I am so lucky to have found my love for art so early in my life, and I want to impact the world with memorable spirituality, for I cannot wait to keep learning, and educating myself on all creative modes of expression. I want to become an artist who curates for museums. I now have an art YouTube, TikTok, and Instagram community to help bring creative visionaries together. "Captured Sirens"

Sailors are normally lured in by the sirens enchanting melodies, so I thought to myself I should do a play-on to this concept. Instead of painting the normal story, I decided to paint a story about the sailor capturing the siren and seeking his ultimate revenge. This painting was heavily inspired by the beach day I had, and I made sure to portray the reflection of the rocks in the water. I love how the colors turned out in this piece; it feels so tranquilizing to look at.
"Nothing to Lose"

In my life, I have faced never-ending anxiety, overthinking the day my life ends. "What is there to lose" I eventually realized. As much as I emphasized that life is so meaningful, at the very same-time it is not. Human beings only choose to create meaning in their lives to make it worth living. I do not feel rushed or nervous anymore because I came to the conclusion that one must die in the end, might as well take my time and make the most out of life too. Everything collapses and comes to a halt in the end, so what is there to worry about? I used very vibrant colors to show that it is not so bad to lose everything. It is a very serene thing to die and have no regrets. Beneath the two skydiving women is the jersey shore, where people are relaxing, enjoying their beach day.
"Light of Light"

This painting is of a siren who discovers what light is. She finds ebullient joy in the most mundane thing: energy. I am obsessed with painting sirens, and I love to create abstraction in sirens. I repainted the diamond shaped ear to draw the art viewer in. I used repetitive patterns to show interest, and blue and yellow colors to create the feeling a pristine beach would give you.
"Generational Gravity"

I made this piece for my AP art studio portfolio, and I wanted to demonstrate the generational trauma that I try to put to abeyance through a space theme . The woman who is wearing an old Elizabethan collar to symbolize how old this ever-changing animosity is. As much as she tries to stray from its affects, the fabrics continues to pull her down until the life is drained from her face.
"Runaway Refugees"

I grew quickly inspired by this artist on Instagram who was not afraid to use bold, clashing colors in all his works. The artist goes by "@angothemango" on Instagram, and I instantly fell in love. I just reveled over his realistic paintings with pastel colors, and I wanted to give it a go at recreating this style. I also wanted to tell the story about the journey of Palestinian peoples. I am always subconsciously thinking about these people, and how I cannot give back to them. All I can do is raise awareness. I want to help with rescuing them when I grow up, in anyway that I can. This painting is a manifestation for what is to be reckoned in the future. I am surprised I made this painting last year, because I predicted the large discussion about Palestine and Isreal.
"Broken Ballerina"

I wanted to illustrate how I feel in my house that is constantly loud. I subconsciously embody the ballerina in the box, which does not dance anymore due to the broken wind up stick. This represents how I am unable to thrive in my broken home. Anyways, enjoy my colors :)
"Go away"

I wanted to try drawing a realistic man, because I had taken a huge break from realism at the time. I was reminded after this painting that I was capable of curating semi-realistic artworks, and that I need to work on attaining hyperrealism overtime. Afterall, art cannot be rushed. I slowly built up color overtime, using several different colors to create one whole. For example, the hair took me the longest because of how the lighting is enveloped. This t-shirt sop background was something I wanted to try, but it turned out not as expected. I made a small couch in the bottom right corner, and I drew a single t-shirt hanging in the background. I used syncopated designs in most of the piece to give it some jazz elements.
"Little Brother Portrait"

This was originally a gesture painting of my younger brother, and I had used only my finger to paint it. Over time I grew bored of it, and I decided to add a new level of interest. Firstly, I illustrated his personality through several pictures. On the top left is a clarinet mouth piece, for he is a brilliant musician who continues to inspire me everyday. The mouthpiece is related to his hands, because of his hands he is able to emit his talent metaphorically. Towards the bottom right is a couple of eighth notes to further add emphasis to his musical background. On the bottom left, it is a hand that symbolizes our shared Orthodox religion. Religion has always been a challenge for both of us, but we have recently grown closer to it because of life's hardships. And finally, towards the top left is the Syrian flag, because I do not see that flag enough represented in art. If you are to look closer, there are little music notes in his dark pupils.
"Static Agitation"

During the pandemic, I experienced a new environment at home, and I had to deal with so much internal turmoil. The Black Lives Matter movement had sparked so much malediction all over social media, and it made my heart absolutely bitter. I then took to my pencil and paper and illustrated my low mood, especially since I had such a short temper during this time. Not only that, but this is also related to my misophonia, and how it makes me quick-reactant to the smallest noises. Considering my environment at home, I would become agitated because of how close my family and I were; the most normal noise making my senses heightened, almost static. I chose to illustrate sharp lines for my background to create crazed movement to the piece. I wish so desperately that I was not cursed with this auditoral complication. I was on my phone too much during this period of my life, and I believe this is also what caused me to become so despondent.
"Self-portrait"

This chalk pastel painting was inspired by a picture of me after I had chopped all my hair off. I associate my hair with a lot of memories, so I decided to cut off my past self and look to the present. I chose the colors pink and blue to symbolize my serenity after getting the cut. Also, my facial expression is funny, and I look happy. My lips look a little pursed because I was over exaggerating. When my cousin and I were young kids, we would dream about dying our hairs pink and blue, since it would look more like cotton candy. My color scheme is purposely hazy and not saturated to make it look more realistic.
"Haircut"

I cut my hair super short during marching band season because I felt all of the pressure to be perfect. I cut my hair because I thought it would make my hair look straighter, the internalized racism bringing me down almost everyday. It took me chopping my hair the shortest it has been to learn that I am beautiful just the way I am, and I do not need to appeal to the male-gaze. I had many sob-fests over my cut hair, especially because I had cut my bangs incredibly short. Looking back, I absolutely hated the length and the pain I associated with the haircut. I used many sharp pastel-strokes to capture my jarring pain.
"Surf Shop"

I was romanticizing the summer on the day of Christmas. I was tired of being inside all day, and I really wanted to pursue a new hobby at the shore. I decided that in order to fill the void in my brain, I had to paint what I desired so badly. Using a blue underpainting, I worked my way up with white, yellow, and green paint. I did not have enough of certain paints to make this, so I had to improvise with rustic yellows in place of white paint. There is a speeding boat in the right corner. Entrances to the beach are on both sides, surfboards laying alongside the shop, and huge rocks towards the bottom of the painting. My goal is to go to the surf shop and maybe the waters this summer to start a new hobby.

The long-haired woman is yearning to have her short again, while the short haired girl wishes her hair was long. There is discontent in all humans, and privation in our psyches for our society encourages us to be sagacious towards absolutely everything. They both have what they want from each other. I focused on making an aquatic seascape and infusing this idea with the character's outfit designs. Moreover, the outfits are inspired by jelly fish. As well as that, this piece ties back to "Somber Haircut," which I feature in this portfolio submission.

I have always curating buildings growing up, and at one point I wanted to be an architect. People change, and I do not want to be an architect anymore. Eventually, I realized that I just want to draw whatever I please. This piece was a project for art class which involved a demo on how to utilize techniques in art such as cross-hatching, cross-contour, and stippling. This is still one of my favorite pieces today, and I quite literally poured, my tears into this drawing. I learned a lot in this unit and this was the outcome of all the practice. I made this piece during covid, and normally I make the best art when I am going through hardships. The background is blank and up for interpretation. I was a sophomore in High School who's only dream has not changed, and I feel like this piece really shows my love for art.

Tune Into Yourself, What More Have You Got Left to Lose?

Desensitized human beings are persistently distracted by social media, and we fail to realize that the content exhibited on the free social media feed is chaining our attention spans with algorithm's short, meaningless videos; the user ultimately ends up devaluing what they have and ends up vacant due to the excessive amount of content. This in turn, makes people feel like the only way to gain success in the world is by posting content everyday, even if it is meaningless by nature. Furthermore, I feel like human beings are turning away from doing something great because before social media, there was more purpose in changing the world for the better. Now, people give up their amazing ideas and innovation so easily because the algorithm wants the same content to be created over and over again. How will the world change if we do not learn to reprioritize what is really important? My painting features a woman who works at a space station; she is seen tuning into a radio, which metaphorically relates to tuning into her soul to find ways to save the world. There are multiple Earth's painted to portray humanities exploitation of mother nature; as if there are other Earth's to use at our disposal.

I made this piece when the ISU, Ice Skating Union, was broadcasting the Grand Prix Finals to television. I have always been deeply in love with ice skating. It's a sport that I have always wanted to try, but because of our finances, I can't do it yet. I believe that I will be able to do it soon, and I hope that one day I can touch the ice. Until then, I will continue to make art about it. This sport is a breath of fresh air to watch every winter. Despite that, this piece is about a skater who wins first place. He connects with his inner child when he finally sees his love for ice skating pay off. This piece was a joy to make. I am so happy I made this piece, even though it is not a masterpiece, it makes me feel happy. It gives me hope that one day I will be able to skate for fun. In the top right features a skater with her coach. It can be interpreted as someone who lost crying at the "kiss and cry" or someone who is sincerely happy over the skaters win.

An oil painting honoring the peace to our hearts. The land of the sun bellows with saturation. I am so beleaguered and bereaved- let Mary grant us the gift that is peace.
