After careful consideration, and following a resolution agreed by members in April 2026, Sandwich Tennis Club has decided not to go ahead with plans for padel courts.
The Committee looked at the financial risks and the possible impact on the Club’s finances and independence in the long term. We also considered the local competition, including the indoor padel courts in Deal and Thanet, which have additional facilities, staff and parking.
Instead, we will focus on developing tennis and pickleball, as well as introducing walking tennis to the Club.
Our aim is to encourage more people to take part — both existing members and people from the wider local community. We particularly want to make the Club more accessible to groups who are currently underrepresented, including children and older people, supporting our charitable aims.
By focusing on the sustainable development of tennis and pickleball, we believe we can create more opportunities for people in Sandwich and the surrounding area to enjoy being active, meet others and get involved with the Club.
