Joining a Meeting
Support group members will receive email notifications with details needed to join a meeting in one of three ways.
Use a direct link to the meeting.
Use a link to join the meeting directly (the easiest option).
Enter meeting information in the Zoom application.
Open and sign-in to the Zoom application.
Select the option “Join”.
Enter the meeting ID, then select “Join Meeting”
If prompted, enter the meeting password.
If prompted, choose whether you want to join with or without video.
A window will open displaying other meeting participants.
Confirm your audio is connected (via internet or device is best).
Join a meeting by phone
The email invitation will include phone numbers that you may use to dial-in to the meeting by phone. Participants who dial-in to a meeting are limited to hearing the meeting and cannot view other participants or presentations.
Set up Zoom on your computer, tablet, or smartphone
It is recommended you set up your Zoom account before the meeting you wish to join so as not to miss any part of the meeting due to ‘technical difficulties’.
To prepare for your first Zoom meeting, you will need to create a Zoom account, download the application, and install the program. The Zoom account is free and the installation of the application straightforward.
The Zoom application may be installed on a computer (Mac or PC), a smart phone, or a tablet. Most of these devices have a built-in camera and microphone that work well with Zoom.
To download the Zoom application for your device, go to https:// zoom.us and click on the ‘Sign up, it's free’ button.
Questions about Zoom?
If you have question or concerns about installing and using Zoom, go to https://support.zoom.us and browse the various help options and videos. Part of the way down the page you will see a series of one minute instructional videos, you might click on the ‘Join a Meeting’ video to get a better idea of what you will see as you set up your computer to join your first Zoom video conference.
Look for the controls in your Zoom meeting window. They may be arranged in different places in the Zoom application on a computer, a tablet, or a smartphone.
Audio: mute and unmute your audio
After your audio is connected, it is best to mute yourself until you want to speak.
Video: turn your video on or off
If you turn off your video, other participants will still see your identity. You will continue to view other participants and shared presentations.
If your computer does not have a camera, you will be identified in the meeting, you will view participants (who are using video), and you will view shared presentations.
Participants: list who is in the meeting
Share Screen: project another application (e.g., PowerPoint or a web page) on the screens of other participants.
Chat: send messages to individuals or everyone
Reactions: Raise your hand or give say OK
