I'm still able to boot with my samsung m.2 SSD, in RST w/ optane support mode. I tested the speed of the samsung ssd, and didn't notice any performance loss, however, I don't want my samsung SSD to not work properly simply because the samsung m.2 driver and samsung magician software becomes all screwy.

I reverted it back to AHCI (using the safe mode trick so that it doesn't become unbootable) and my M.2 was recognized in samsung magician software again, and I could see the health status and firmware version of the samsung m.2.

There is something called samsung magician dc that you can install in linux. It can be downloaded from this link. The manual can be found in that dropdown list. Extract the tarball from the first link, and open the resulting folder. There will be two directories, 64-bit and 32 bit. Open the one corresponding to your operating system. The samsung magician executable is in this folder. The file is a simple binary so make it executable and run it.

The usage of samsung magician is described in the manual. Also some information on how to use the software can be obtained from sudo ./magician --help. One thing to know is that you pretty much always have to run magician as superuser. For example to list the samsung disks attached to your system you would use the command

sudo ./magician -L There are many more operations desribed in the manual.

The 840 evo has a performance update which (I think) is independent from firmware and cannot be done with samsung magician dc. I think this performance update was the original goal of your question, so I will address it. The performance update can be found here. I have not done this update, but the installation guide is there.

I am trying to install Samsung magician to use on my computer but the installer quits every time with that error message. I have a Samsung 860 EVO 1TB SSD. I have tried running as admin, disabling windows defender realtime protection and controlled folder access, and changing the directories (Downloads -> Desktop). Thanks

I've been getting a popup when I boot my Win10 PC that says "Samsung magician update available". I'm not sure if it will update the magician software only, or if it will update the firmware on my Samsung SSD which Win10 resides on. So I just close the popup and it goes away until my boot up the next morning.

Same for me (Windows 10, latest patch day installed, B450, AMD Ryzen 2600x), update 7.1.1 gave me problem like Samsung Magician Update 7.1.0 broken doesn't run when I start my pc. I try to open it but doesnt' work, so I check the process need to close it 'cause was running (but wasn't tru) and start again. I'm gonna try to down grade to...that sad from samsung

It most likely uses tools already part of the Linux distro since the file is only 2.5M. unRAID is slimmed down and lacks most tools in a normal distribution so not all functions may work. That said, copy the 32 or 64 bit bin to a drive (cache, etc.) and issue 'chmod +x' on the file then run it (./magician).

We have installed some Samsung SSD's in some aging laptops, and I would like the Samsung magician app to be able to run and do it's thing, but standard domain users don't get the elevation prompt at startup in order to run the app. Is there a way to overcome this? 2351a5e196
