If you want long battery life and a seamless ecosystem for Android, choose Samsung Galaxy Buds+ R175N; if you need smart noise cancellation, a unique lipstick-shaped case, and multipoint connectivity, choose Anker Soundcore A30i.
Both of these true wireless options are serious contenders for anyone looking for best over ear headphones for study alternatives that don't sacrifice portability. The Samsung unit leans heavily on its massive battery capacity and reliable Bluetooth 5.0 stability, making it a tank for long sessions. The Anker model counters with modern Bluetooth 5.4, adaptive noise cancellation that adjusts automatically, and a form factor designed to be virtually weightless. Neither is a perfect fit for every single person, but they excel in very different ways depending on how you plan to use them throughout your day.
• Samsung Galaxy Buds+ R175N: Offers an industry-leading 11 hours of continuous playback on a single charge with a total of 22 hours including the case, but relies on older Bluetooth 5.0 technology compared to newer competitors.
• Anker Soundcore A30i: Delivers smart, adaptive Active Noise Cancellation up to 46dB and features cutting-edge Bluetooth 5.4 with multipoint connection, though it comes in a "Renewed" condition which may vary slightly from new stock.
• Who is this for?: Choose the Samsung for marathon study sessions where charging isn't an option, or the Anker for users who prioritize silence and switching between devices without reconnecting.
The Samsung Galaxy Buds+ R175N is built for endurance. When I look at the specifications, the standout feature is clearly the battery architecture. With a single charge delivering up to 11 hours of nonstop music, this earbud can easily survive a full day of classes or a long work shift without needing to retreat to a power source. The case itself adds another 11 hours, bringing the total listening time to 22 hours. This is not just a spec sheet number; it translates to real-world freedom. You can leave the charging cable at home and still have enough juice for your commute, your workout, and your evening relaxation.
For students specifically seeking noise cancelling in ear earbuds for study, the Samsung offers a practical approach to focus rather than aggressive isolation. It includes Ambient Aware mode, which allows you to filter in outside sounds like flight announcements, traffic, or order numbers while keeping your playlist playing. This is ideal for those who need to stay aware of their environment but still want to block out general chatter. The design is minimalist and rounded, fitting securely in the ear to help isolate distractions without feeling intrusive.

However, this product might not be the right choice if you are deeply embedded in the Apple ecosystem or require the absolute latest connectivity standards. It uses Bluetooth 5.0, which is stable but lacks the speed and efficiency of newer versions. Additionally, the lack of active noise cancellation in the traditional sense means it relies on physical isolation and ambient modes rather than electronic cancellation. If your primary goal is total silence in a loud library, you might find the passive isolation sufficient, but the electronic silence of competitors could feel more effective. It is also worth noting the international version status, which means there is no US warranty included, a trade-off you must consider before buying.
The Anker Soundcore A30i targets a user who values modern convenience and intelligent sound management above raw battery longevity. Its most defining characteristic is the "smart" nature of its noise cancellation. Unlike fixed systems, the A30i uses adaptive algorithms to detect external sound and auto-adjust the noise-cancelling level. This creates a dynamic experience where the earbuds react to your surroundings, whether you are walking down a busy street or sitting in a quiet room. The specification lists a noise reduction capability of up to 46dB, which is a significant figure for blocking out low-frequency droning noises often found in study environments.
Another major selling point for the Anker is the Bluetooth 5.4 connectivity. This newer standard supports multipoint connection, allowing you to pair the earbuds with both a laptop and a phone simultaneously. You can switch seamlessly between watching a lecture on your computer and answering a call on your phone without unpairing and re-pairing. This is a game-changer for productivity. Furthermore, the inclusion of four microphones combined with AI-enhanced algorithms ensures that your voice remains clear during calls, even in noisy locations. The design philosophy here is also distinct; the lipstick-shaped case is chic and compact, and the earbuds themselves are described as tiny and lightweight, feeling virtually weightless for all-day wear.
There are trade-offs to consider with this model. While the battery life in ANC mode is listed at 15 hours, the specific data sheet indicates a 90-day warranty, suggesting this unit may be a "Renewed" product. This implies that while the performance should match new units, the cosmetic condition or internal battery health might vary slightly from the factory fresh experience. Additionally, the control method is touch-based, which some users find less precise than physical buttons, especially when adjusting settings quickly during a study session. If you prefer a classic, sturdy feel over a trendy, ultra-lightweight design, the Anker might feel a bit too delicate.
• Best for battery life → Samsung Galaxy Buds+ R175N: With 11 hours per charge and 22 hours total, plus a quick 3-minute charge giving one hour of playtime, it wins on pure endurance.
• Best for noise isolation → Anker Soundcore A30i: Its adaptive ANC up to 46dB actively blocks more external noise than the Samsung's passive isolation and ambient mode.
• Best for multitasking → Anker Soundcore A30i: Multipoint connection via Bluetooth 5.4 lets you manage audio from two devices at once, a feature the Samsung lacks.
• Best for environmental awareness → Samsung Galaxy Buds+ R175N: The Ambient Aware feature is excellent for staying safe and connected to your immediate surroundings while listening.
• Best for call clarity → Anker Soundcore A30i: Four dedicated microphones with AI processing offer superior voice pickup compared to the Samsung's three-microphone setup.
• Best for style and portability → Anker Soundcore A30i: The lipstick-shaped case and ultra-lightweight earbuds make it easier to carry in small pockets or pouches.
• Best for Android integration → Samsung Galaxy Buds+ R175N: The Galaxy Wearable app offers deep customization for Samsung users, whereas the Anker relies on the generic Soundcore app.
• Best value for modern tech → Anker Soundcore A30i: The inclusion of Bluetooth 5.4 and adaptive algorithms puts it ahead technologically, despite being a renewed item.
In my opinion, for the specific use case of studying, I would choose the Anker Soundcore A30i. The ability to actively cancel up to 46dB of noise with adaptive algorithms is exactly what a student needs to create a silent bubble in a busy dorm or coffee shop. The multipoint connection is also a critical feature for academic work, allowing me to switch instantly between a research video on my laptop and a notification on my phone without fumbling with settings. While the Samsung has better battery life, the Anker's smarter technology and lighter comfort make it the superior tool for focused learning.
If you are looking for the best clip on earbuds for study or similar forms of focused audio gear, remember that the right choice depends on whether you need raw power or smart features. Both products deliver on their promises through their respective designs, but the Anker's adaptability gives it the edge for modern, distraction-free study habits.
Yes, both models offer noise control, but the Anker Soundcore A30i provides active noise cancellation up to 46dB with adaptive algorithms, while the Samsung Galaxy Buds+ R175N uses passive isolation and an ambient aware mode to let you hear your surroundings.
Yes, the Samsung Galaxy Buds+ R175N offers up to 11 hours of continuous playback on a single charge, whereas the Anker Soundcore A30i provides up to 15 hours of playtime specifically when using ANC mode.
Only the Anker Soundcore A30i supports multipoint connection via Bluetooth 5.4, allowing you to switch between devices easily. The Samsung Galaxy Buds+ R175N connects to one device at a time.
According to the product title and details, the Anker Soundcore A30i is listed as a "Renewed" item, meaning it has been inspected and tested to work like new, whereas the Samsung Galaxy Buds+ R175N is presented as a standard international version.
