One of the most important things int character design is to know the concept or story about your character that's being created. We should ask ourself questions about ''Who are they? Where are they from? what do they like?'' This should be a base to know what we are going for with this character.
The character is going to be a kid.
They live a life surronded by goods.
Their parents are probably rich
Their main personality traits are shy, genteel and positive
Once the main story or concept is settle, we should focus on shapes, silhouette and proportions this character is going to have.
Shape language inform you a little about the story, setting, mood or tone. It can work as a way of expressing the character personality, age, or side (protagonist or antagonist).
It can be consider as some kind of skeleton of the characters we create.
Shape language is much more than geometric shapes, since they represent meaning and personality. It’s often categorized into 3 types of shapes:
Natural/Organic shapes are classified as shapes that appear irregular and have a curvy flow to them.
Geometric shapes are basicshapes such as squares, rectangles, circles, triangles and crosses, etc...
Abstract shapes Have a form that is recognizable, but not real, variations of shapes stylized or simplified.
The story ofthis artistgoesaround a maid robot, but her main diuty its to take care of a little kid. This little kid and the way this autor designs kids in general were a big inspiration and affected the design of my final work. Specially the ones of this Maid Robot story, since most of the kids here are rich or from higher classes.
After a lot of sketching and changing (and erasing) I combined the shapes I liked the most and got this beautiful shape.
I decided to go for an organic shape. The curvy flows of the figures matches with that cute personality I'm looking for in this character. It also gives a ''this character is young'' and with the rest of the clothes it would be obvious is, indeed, a child.
I wasnt sure about what would she be wearing and in case I have any troube while making the 3D modle's clothes, I have this other three putfits that remain simple for the most part. I'm sure the original is siple enough, but I find it better to experiment a bit with the concept of this cute probably rich girl in mind. The thing is, she'd probably had all this for herself.
I love how the siluette
Zbrush was an easy rise at the beggining. In this first work I was doing, it can be see my struggle with shapong the figure of the original character. I was confused on how to exactly work with the tools. I was almost desesperate to acomplish a perfect rounf shape before getting to the legs, but I kept on failing.
While making the hair I realized that the 2D art was messing up with it. The front and the side had different shapes that I had to solve while working on the 3D model.
I had a few problems while working on Zbrush, that I managed to solved. But when further in the modeling process my computeres crushed and my files for some reason disappeared.
I re start the porject as soon as possible so I could catch up. And honeslty, knowing how half of the things worked made it easy for me to actually acomplish a more satisfaying work.
The shapes made more sense now. The similarity to the actual project original desing was major.
