Dear Students, Parents and Teachers,
As we welcome the month of August, we turn our attention to something that gives meaning to who we are beyond the boundaries of classrooms and curriculum—our culture, our heritage and the relationships that bind us together.
The theme for this month, “Threads of Culture, Ties of Heart,” invites us to reflect on the rich traditions, languages, art, stories and values that shape our collective identity. Each culture carries its own distinctive thread, and together, these threads form the beautiful fabric of our society. Through our celebrations and learning experiences this month at Salwan, we hope to nurture in our students not only an appreciation of their own heritage but also a genuine respect for the traditions and perspectives of others.
Education becomes truly meaningful when it enables children to understand the world with curiosity, sensitivity and an open heart. Our students will therefore be encouraged to explore the richness of India’s cultural heritage, discover the stories behind traditions and recognise the values that have travelled across generations. In doing so, they will learn that culture is not merely something we inherit—it is something we understand, cherish and carry forward with responsibility.
August also offers us a meaningful opportunity to celebrate the spirit of our nation and the relationships that make a school community strong. Empathy, respect, cooperation and a sense of belonging are the invisible threads that connect us as students, teachers and families. When these values are nurtured, a school becomes more than a place of learning; it becomes a community where every child feels valued, heard and inspired to contribute.
I encourage our students to approach this month with a generous spirit—to listen to stories, embrace differences, celebrate traditions and discover the common humanity that lies beneath them all.
Let us come together to honour our roots, celebrate our heritage and strengthen the bonds that unite us. May this month remind us that while our cultures may give us different stories to tell, our shared values give us countless reasons to walk together.
Let us weave a month of learning, belonging and togetherness—one thread, one heart, one community at a time.
Blessings!
Dr. Sunita Jakhar
Officiating Principal
Threads of Culture, Ties of Heart
Culture lives in quiet places—
in stories told at dusk,
in songs passed from one generation to another,
in the fragrance of festivals,
in the rhythm of familiar languages,
and in values woven gently
into the lives we lead.
It lives in a grandmother’s tale,
a craftsman’s patient hands,
a melody from another land,
a dance that carries history,
a celebration that brings us home—
each one a thread,
delicate yet enduring,
connecting yesterday with today.
Threads of Culture, Ties of Heart—
for every tradition has a story,
and every story has a place
in the larger story we share.
What may seem different at first
often leads us to something familiar—
a love for family,
a respect for our roots,
a hope for tomorrow,
a longing to belong.
And perhaps that is the beauty
of a nation like ours—
many voices, countless traditions,
yet one enduring spirit.
Our heritage gives us roots;
our understanding gives us wings.
Together, they teach us
that unity does not ask us to be the same;
it asks us to stand together.
This August,
let us pause to remember
the stories that shaped us,
the values that guide us,
and the bonds that hold us close.
Let us preserve what we have inherited,
cherish what we share,
and pass it forward
with pride, grace and responsibility.
For culture is the thread
that connects us to our past,
and love is the tie
that carries us towards the future.
One heritage.
Many stories.
One heart.
One shared journey.

Book Review | Author: James Clear
Atomic Habits explores how small, consistent changes can lead to meaningful personal growth. James Clear explains how everyday habits influence our behaviour and shape the people we become. The book encourages steady improvement, reminding us that even a small step can make a difference when repeated over time.
What I found particularly inspiring was the idea of becoming just one per cent better each day. As the saying goes, “Little drops make a mighty ocean.” Simple changes in our routines can gradually strengthen our confidence, discipline and outlook. The book emphasises building effective systems that help us make progress towards our goals.
Clear presents four laws of behaviour change: make it obvious, make it attractive, make it easy and make it satisfying. These principles encourage us to create reminders for good habits, make them appealing, begin with manageable steps and recognise our progress.
Another valuable lesson is the connection between habits and identity. Each constructive action is a step towards becoming the person we wish to be. This helped me understand that personal growth comes through patience and consistent effort.
I would recommend Atomic Habits to teenagers seeking to develop better study routines, strengthen self-discipline and make thoughtful choices. For me, its most encouraging message is that meaningful change can begin with one small action.
