"Education is not the learning of facts, but the training of the mind to think." – Albert Einstein
As the year waned, our scholastic sanctuary was enveloped in a December narrative that elegantly fused the festive cheer with a deep veneration for the unending voyage of education. Under the auspices of the National Education Policy's endorsement of experiential learning, our academy transformed into a nexus of scholarly and cultural transmutation, where the whispers of antiquity informed the ingenuity of modernity. The Commendation Convocation set the tone for our month with a dignified homage to the 'Veer Naaris', whose tales of resilience and sacrifice were bestowed upon our pupils as the most profound of teachings. Their immutable spirit, woven into the fabric of our nation's saga, stood as a testament to the conviction that authentic education includes the acknowledgment and admiration of those who have sculpted our shared heritage.
In this contemplative backdrop, the Hunar Mela emerged as a kaleidoscopic junction of traditional craftsmanship and youthful inquisitiveness. Our scholars interacted with the distinguished Padmashree laureates, whose creations were not just visually captivating but also incarnations of enduring cultural sagacity and the relentless spark of innovation. This engagement with the artisans narrowed the chasm between scholarly pursuit and lived experience, as the students absorbed the spirit of creativity rooted in the depths of time. The sporting pursuits of our students, exemplified by the inter-house football tournament, reflected the principles of historical athleticism and contemporary vigor. Each contest was not just an exhibition of physical agility but a living narrative of camaraderie and integrity, forging a legacy that would echo through the annals of time.
The plethora of workshops and scholarly colloquia that graced the month acted as gateways to enlightenment, resonating with the wisdom of the ancients while welcoming the cutting-edge of modern thought. Our scholars stood as proactive creators of their educational journey, piecing together and dissecting knowledge in a manner that defied the conventional confines of learning. The Yuletide celebrations, with their time-honored traditions, unfurled as a mosaic of communal unity and the birth of new memories. The school fellowship, bonded in festive spirit, crafted a tapestry of moments destined to be enshrined in our institution's collective consciousness. Our daily convocations became a tableau for the students' exuberant artistic and lyrical expressions, each pigment and verse capturing the essence of their introspections in a way that would be indelibly woven into the school's cultural fabric.
As we part with December and step into a new year, we embrace the ethos of a period that was as much a tribute to our historical fabric as it was a forerunner of prospective dreams. It was an epoch where every lesson, every endeavor, and every custom became an essential filament in the ever-evolving narrative of education—a narrative that reveres the past, exults in the now, and looks forward with anticipation to what lies ahead. Let us proceed into the forthcoming year with the brilliance of this comprehensive education guiding our way, ever mindful of the rich tapestry of experiences that December has interlaced into the very essence of our academic chronicle.
It is with a heavy heart that we also take a moment to honor the memory of our Chairman Emeritus, whose recent passing has left a void in our institution. We mourn the loss of a visionary leader whose contributions to our educational ethos will forever be remembered. As we celebrate the legacy of December, we also reflect on the indelible impact of a luminary who has shaped the very foundations of our academy. His memory will continue to inspire us as we uphold the values and ideals he cherished so dearly.

BRIGADIER PREMJIT SINGH PANESAR SOCIAL WORK, DELHI
In the sprawling metropolis of Delhi, where the skyline pierces the heavens and the streets teem with ceaseless activity, a quiet symphony of benevolence plays out each day. This is the story of an extraordinary endeavor—a confluence of altruism and resolute determination—embodied by Veerji da Dera, a sanctuary of solace for the city’s destitute. Since its inception in 1989 by the late Trilochan Singh, this noble mission has been a lifeline for the marginalized. At its helm today stands Kamaljeet Singh Panesar, a businessman whose spirit of magnanimity transcends material pursuits. Alongside an army of selfless volunteers, he ensures that thousands of famished souls receive not just sustenance but also the dignity that poverty often strips away.
The essence of this enterprise lies in its simplicity—a meal composed of two handmade breads, a bowl of lentils, and a cup of tea. Yet, for the multitudes who congregate daily at seven strategic locations across the city—from the bustling lanes of Chandni Chowk to the serene environs of Tilak Nagar—this humble repast is a lifeline, their first and often sole nourishment of the day. The initiative is nothing short of remarkable in its self-sufficiency. On 70 acres of farmland leased in the Delhi-NCR region, the group cultivates wheat, rice, mustard, and bajra, alongside rearing cattle to provide essential ingredients for their kitchens. This agrarian backbone exemplifies the foresight and resourcefulness that underpin their mission. However, Veerji da Dera extends its compassion beyond the culinary realm. It offers rudimentary medical care to the ailing, with doctors stationed at key sites such as Chandni Chowk and Nigambodh Ghat. At their old-age home in Tilak Nagar, state-of-the-art facilities, including X-ray machines, are employed to care for the severely unwell. When cases surpass their capacity, patients are transported to public hospitals, and upon recovery, some find refuge within the old-age home’s comforting embrace. What is most striking about this initiative is its profound humility. There are no elaborate accounts or corporate sponsorships; instead, the enterprise thrives on the goodwill of ordinary citizens who donate food grains and other essentials. As Kamaljeet Singh asserts, “We do not solicit funds; we accept what people choose to give.”
Even in death, these Samaritans provide dignity. From cremating unclaimed bodies after the Sarojini Nagar blasts in 2005 to ensuring that the homeless pass away with respect, their compassion knows no bounds. The volunteers, professionals from diverse walks of life, epitomize the harmony of vocation and vocation. Vinod Goel, one such altruist, proudly declares, “We are all professionals; no one is nikkama (useless) here.” Their dedication, unfettered by the constraints of time or resources, reflects an unwavering commitment to the cause. Ravinder Singh, a pharmacist and long-time participant in this noble endeavor, recollects how his journey began. Inspired by Trilochan Singh’s selfless acts—cleaning wounds and tending to the forgotten—he embraced the opportunity to serve. Today, alongside his wife, he continues to uphold this legacy of compassion. In a city that often prioritizes progress over humanity, Veerji da Dera is a poignant reminder of the enduring power of kindness. Their actions, untouched by governmental aid yet profoundly impactful, stand as a testament to the indomitable spirit of community. As Kamaljeet Singh aptly remarks, “We are, in our own way, assisting the government.”
Indeed, in the shadow of Delhi’s relentless development, the echoes of this quiet revolution reaffirm that the essence of charity lies not in grand gestures but in the steady, unyielding resolve to uplift the downtrodden. The students of Salwan Public School donated 1,200 kg of pulses and medical aid worth Rs 25,000.
A Beacon of Humanity: Brigadier Premjit Singh Panesar Honoured for Transformative Social Work Through 'Veerji da Dera,' Bringing Hope to Delhi’s Marginalized.
