We focused our ministry efforts on the Chinese community in Warsaw. Data shows there are approximately 1,000 people from Taiwan and about 7,000 from Mainland China in Warsaw, totaling nearly 10,000 Chinese residents in the city.
We made a special visit to the University of Warsaw. However, as it is an urban university, its campus is highly decentralized, consisting of ten campuses and dozens of buildings spread across the city. We decided to visit the University Library, but since entry is restricted to registered students, we could only linger in the vicinity for about two hours. During that time, we did not encounter a single Oriental face.
This experience illustrates that finding Chinese people by chance is no easy task; it requires having established contacts among the students.
With the assistance of the Emmanuel Educational Foundation in Warsaw, we had several conversations with a brother working in Warsaw. We learned that Jehovah's Witnesses and the Mormon Church are very active in Poland. They employ deceptive tactics, using young, attractive Chinese-speaking Polish men and women to date Chinese individuals of the opposite sex as a way to indoctrinate them with their heretical teachings.
We also had the opportunity to meet a Christian student from the Jagiellonian University in Kraków. This. individual confirmed the same information: there is no Chinese church in Kraków, yet Jehovah’s Witnesses and Mormons are very active there. Consequently, there is an urgent desire for a Chinese church to be established in Kraków.
Although a Taiwanese church exists there, many people from Mainland China are deeply hostile toward it due to severe political prejudices.
Given this situation, we organized a BBQ gathering on Friday. In addition to our team of four and some staff from Emmanuel, five non-Christians attended. Among them were two individuals seeking to immigrate to Poland so their two children can receive a non-Communist education, two students from the University of Warsaw, and a Buddhist lay practitioner.
During the BBQ, I shared a brief gospel message. Afterward, the two students engaged in a long conversation with me; they were quite open-minded.
Once the event concluded, the Buddhist practitioner unexpectedly came to our hotel and had a two-hour in-depth discussion with the four of us. We pray that the Holy Spirit will work in this person's heart through the word we shared.
We listened to a presentation about their ministry at the Emmanuel Education Foundation.
