Salkfngan (SALK-fingan) noun: A style of role-playing where players hold complete narrative authority over their own character models, and use those models exclusively when interacting with the shared fictional state. This style is characterized by a dislike of mechanics that require the player to author or edit fictional facts without using their character model as a proxy, or mechanics that require them to change their character model against their will.
Salkfngan is a combination of two other modes of play:
Safngan (SAA-fingan) noun : A style of role-playing where players interact with the fictional state using their personal character models exclusively. This style is characterized by a dislike of mechanics that require the player to author or edit fictional facts without using their character model as a proxy. This often involves spending meta-narrative currency, or being asked to author facts about the world.
Alkfngan (ALK-fingan) noun : A style of role-playing where players hold complete narrative authority over their character models. This style is characterized by a dislike of mechanics that force a player to change that model against their will. These mechanics often include rules for morale and persuasion. It should be noted that external factors, such as injury, are not considered harmful to this style, as the focus is on the internal consistency of the character, and not their external circumstances.
