There are 5 categories of work ops professionals may engage in. These relate to business processes and/or technology. When taking on a project or task, it is important to understand what category that work falls in to help shape the next steps.
- Fix: Something is not working as intended
- Create: Inclusive of any net-new addition. The ultimate solution may borrow from pre-existing solutions or frameworks, but the output is new in a meaningful way.
- Modify: Increasing or reducing complexity of existing solutions.
- Deprecate: Something that used to accomplish a specific end result will no longer exist. End of life for a process, technology used, role, etc.
- Execute: Work that is understood. This work may occur regularly to the point that it can be scheduled or it may be situational. There may be specific inputs required for this work to be completed (ex. preparing for a new hire, required inputs may include role, employee name, start date, and hiring manager)
