Salah Al-Sharhan is a professor of Systems Design Engineering, an expert educational consultant, and the current Vice President for Academic Affairs at the International University of Kuwait (IUK). Renowned for his visionary approach to systemic university transformation, professor Al-Sharhan’s consulting expertise spans the complete spectrum of institutional evolution, including academic program architecture, digital transformation, scalable e-learning ecosystems, and strategic planning.
Throughout his career, Al-Sharhan has established an illustrious track record of executive leadership within the Gulf region's higher education sector. He previously served as the Vice President for Academic Affairs at the Gulf University for Science and Technology (GUST) in Kuwait, following a pivotal tenure as Vice President for Planning and Development from 2012 to 2015, where he was instrumental in driving long-term operational excellence and international accreditation. His foundational leadership also includes serving as the Founding Dean of both the College of Information Technology and the College of Business Management at Doha University, where he championed faculty development and curriculum innovation.
He holds a Ph.D. in Systems Design Engineering with a concentration in Computational Intelligence from the University of Waterloo (2002). His interdisciplinary research portfolio successfully bridges theoretical computer science with practical engineering solutions, focusing on biologically inspired optimization algorithms, data clustering, network optimization, and next-generation e-learning methodologies.
Beyond academia, Professor Al-Sharhan has served as a senior consultant for the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). In this high-impact capacity, he has architected and implemented large-scale national and international initiatives, including country-wide digital transformation blueprints, national e-learning frameworks, e-health strategies, and complex enterprise architectures for public sector modernization.
