If you want maximum adjustability and specialized tire-contact stability for heavy vehicles in cold weather, choose SakerPlus Upgrated Heavy Duty; if you need a straightforward, no-fuss platform that fits standard tire widths with minimal setup, choose Thomletha Folding Tire Step.
• SakerPlus Upgrated Heavy Duty: Its biggest strength is the highly customizable fit with three tire width settings and four height positions, plus upgraded foot pads for better grip; the trade-off is its slightly heavier weight and more complex adjustment process. This pick is for truck owners who need precision access to high roofs on varied tire sizes.
• Thomletha Folding Tire Step: Its biggest strength is its simplicity and lightweight design with a broad 9–13 inch tire compatibility range; the trade-off is the lack of fine-tuned height or width adjustments beyond the basic folding mechanism. This pick is for casual users with standard-sized tires who want immediate, hassle-free deployment.
• Who should buy which: Choose SakerPlus if your vehicle has unique tire dimensions or you need exact step height alignment; choose Thomletha if you prioritize speed and portability over granular customization.
The SakerPlus Upgrated Heavy Duty Folding Tire Step is engineered for those who demand precision when accessing the roof of a large vehicle. What sets this unit apart immediately is its sophisticated approach to fitment. Unlike generic steps that rely on friction alone, this model features upgraded protective foot pads designed specifically to create steadier contact with the tire surface. These pads reduce direct metal-to-rubber interaction, which translates to improved placement stability. In practical terms, this means less shifting or wobbling when you are stepping up, a critical safety factor when the ground is icy or uneven.
The adjustability of this step is where it truly shines for heavy-duty applications. Whether you drive a compact SUV with smaller rubber or a full-size pickup with wide off-road tires, there is a specific setting to match. Furthermore, the four mounting positions allow you to tailor the step height precisely.
This product is ideal for the serious truck, RV, or van owner who treats roof access as a regular necessity rather than an occasional event. If you frequently need to load gear onto a roof rack, clean solar panels, or perform maintenance on tall vehicles, the ability to fine-tune the height and width makes this the superior choice. However, it is not for everyone. The added complexity of adjusting three width settings and four height levels means it takes a moment longer to set up compared to simpler alternatives. But for the user who values stability and a custom fit above all else, the extra effort in setup pays off in peace of mind.

The Thomletha Adjustable Folding Tire Step takes a different philosophy, focusing on reliability and ease of use for the average driver. Its primary selling point is its "no-worry" approach to installation. There are no additional modifications required to put this product into use, and it comes ready to go straight out of the box. The design targets a specific, common tire width range of 9 to 13 inches, covering the vast majority of light trucks, SUVs, and pickup tires found on the road today. If your tire falls within this standard window, you do not need to measure millimeters or hunt for specific adjustment slots; you simply mount it and go.
Durability is another key aspect of the Thomletha build. The manufacturer states that the materials used are resistant to cracking, breaking, or shattering, adhering strictly to production standards to ensure user safety during operation.
This step is best suited for drivers who want a reliable tool for occasional roof access without the hassle of calibration. If you are someone who parks in your driveway, pulls the step out, climbs up to grab something from the roof, and puts it away, the Thomletha fits that workflow perfectly. It is particularly appealing for those with standard-sized tires who do not want to deal with the technical details of width and height adjustments. The trade-off is that it lacks the granular control of the SakerPlus. You cannot tweak the height to get a perfect flush against a running board, nor can you adapt it to a very narrow or very wide tire outside the 9–13 inch range. If you have a non-standard tire setup, this unit might feel too rigid for your needs. But for the typical user looking for a sturdy, simple, and effective way to reach their roof, the Thomletha delivers exactly what is promised without any unnecessary complexity.

In my opinion, if you are living in a climate with snow and ice, or simply value absolute security when climbing onto a vehicle roof, the SakerPlus Upgrated Heavy Duty is the smarter investment. The upgraded foot pads and the ability to fine-tune both width and height provide a level of confidence that a fixed-width step simply cannot match. That precision matters immensely when conditions are slippery, and the cold weather requirement makes that stability non-negotiable. However, if you have a standard tire size and just want a durable, no-fuss step for occasional use, the Thomletha is a solid, reliable workhorse that gets the job done without the fuss. I would personally choose the SakerPlus for its engineering advantages in demanding environments, knowing that the extra setup time is worth the added safety.
The Thomletha is designed for portability and does not list a specific weight, but it is marketed as a replacement for standard tires with a focus on convenience, suggesting it is lighter than the 3.5-pound SakerPlus model.
The SakerPlus features upgraded foot pads designed to improve contact stability on the tire surface, helping it handle minor irregularities better than rigid metal steps, though it still requires proper inflation for optimal safety.
No, neither product requires additional modifications or tools for installation; both are designed to be mounted directly onto the tire and adjusted by hand for immediate use.
