Jesus meets the women of Jerusalem
"We adore you, O Christ, and we praise you. Because by your holy cross you have redeemed the world. "
Luke 23:27-28
[As Jesus walked toward Golgotha], a large number of people followed him, including women who mourned and wailed for him; and he turned to them and said, “Daughters of Jerusalem, weep not for me but for yourselves and your children”
Reflection:
When the women of Jerusalem saw Jesus suffering, they were overcome with grief. They loved Jesus–they had seen him healing the sick, performing miracles, and speaking with enormous crowds who followed him everywhere. But now, everything was different and they weren’t ready for it. Has this kind of loss ever happened to you? Perhaps your dream didn’t come true. Perhaps someone you loved died. Perhaps you were in an accident, deceived and manipulated by someone you trusted, or got your heart broken. That's how the women of Jerusalem felt when they were with Jesus, but even in his suffering and agony, Jesus' attention and love was still on others.
Prayer:
Lord God, even in Your suffering, You acknowledged those who were called low in society. O Lord when we become caught up in our own lives, help us to remember others and show love and kindness to other as you did. Grant us the strength to show the same love and compassion as you.
