This project captures the lives, experiences and wisdom of astronomers, technicians and other connected to astronomy in South Africa. Astronomy in South Africa is ancient and telescope astronomy was established 200 years ago in Cape Town with the creation of what would become the South African Astronomical Observatory. The South African History of Astronomy Project is a joint project between the University of South Africa and the University of the Western Cape.
The principal investigators are Dr Jarita Holbrook and Dr Lerothodi Leeuw.
For the project we interviewed people living and working in South Africa, those South Africans living and working abroad, and foreigners who have worked as astronomers in South Africa.
