The 2024 PNP Primary for the Arecibo III Senatorial District, A contest between Arecibo Municipal legislator Gaby González, Professor Brenda Pérez Soto, Former HD-15 Rep. Arnaldo Jiménez, Dra. Tuty Soler Vázquez HD-12 Re. Héctor Torres, and Morayma Díaz resulted in a win for González and Pérez.
Whilst Most Candidates were actively alligned with PNP Senate leader Thomas Rivera Schatz, Gaby González and Tuty Soler were endorsed By Governor Pedro Pierluisi, and Brenda Pérez and Arnaldo Jiménez by Resident commissioner Jenniffer Gonzalez
Despite these differing endorsements, existing municipal organizations made it so the candidates were not dependent on the gubernatorial support, with González strongest in his native Arecibo, Jiménez in his old House District, and Torres Calderón in his old House District.
However, the biggest story of the election was how the spot for the second place was nearly tied between the Professor Brenda Pérez and former house member Arnaldo Jiménez.
Appearing as a tie in the General Canvas, a recount was initiated which found a double count in Camuy's precinct 30-2-1, resulting in Pérez taking a 476 vote or 1.8% lead over frm. Rep. Jiménez.
